Doug Stanhope: No Refunds

Another biting Stanhope stand-up, this time attacking everything from Jews and nationalism to the New York Yankees and their fans. To their faces. His humour - and views - might not be for everyone but his natural wit, knack for wording his diatribes and ability to laugh at himself makes him a clear cut above all the other 'angry liberals' seen on stage.

A real breath of (smoky) fresh air! We definitely need more guys like him now, in this Age of the Wussy.

Very funny, laughed out loud a few times which is rare for me to do with stand-ups

Starting really rough but gaining steam, Doug makes some of the most penetrating, over the top societal commentary I've heard in a special.

Success is making Stanhope a bit smug and cocky, no? A big step down from Deadbeat Hero (2004). Sometimes he looked like he had a bit too much to drink, and that didn't make him any funnier. I'm binge-watching his specials, and the material is getting repetitive by this point. He is still better than most stand-up comics, though.

What you'd expect coming from a guy on the verge of a midlife crisis, constantly smoking & drinking on stage, and wearing a shirt that says "Libertarian". If I were still 18 I probably would have given this a much better score, because he is actually pretty funny. But his, "I should be able to do whatever the fuck I want" life-views and jaded bitching is what I'm trying to get away from. If I wanted to hear that I could just get drunk with any of my friends. He did make me laugh though.

Interesting to see intelligence and poignancy from a guy who did some shitty Girls Gone Wild video that everybody knows about because of late night Comedy Central infomercials.

"I know you don't want to hear this..." Doug says to the crowd before going off on one of his disturbing, yet oddly comforting stand-up segment on the real story behind paedophiles. And the quote sums up most of his work on this set, giving hugely unpopular opinions on material he's happened to become experienced in, like abortion and the importance of hard drugs.
