This time Van Damme gets to kick the shit out of himself. His catharsis is our pain.

Possibly Van Damme's worst, yet he does provide us with the early scene about his ass and legs. So classy.

Twice as much Van Damme! This movie is chock full of latent homo-eroticism as the muscles from brussels does splits and makes his trademarked constipated ballet-karate face to the delight of prepubescent boys worshipping the cheesy white karate man. This was the movie that signaled that perhaps Van Damme's 15 minutes of fame had just about expired. Watch it if you enjoy trash cinema but make sure you have the correct alcoholic beverages and company prepared for the evening's festivities.

Turns out two times Van Damme isn't two times the fun. Not even half. Boring and half-baked. Gets very slightly better at the very end but it's far past the point of no redemption by that point.

You want action, you got action. What did you expect? I guess there could have been more action if there were 3 Van Damme's and they named it triple impact. Just an idea...I don't see why not...

Jean Claude Van Damme writes and stars....but this time, as two people! Twice the action equals twice the pain (for both the eyes and ears). I'm waiting for the sequel, Triple Impact! The twins have sex and now there are three, with the addition of a baby Jean-Claude Van Damme who is also skilled in fighting! Together the three form up as a team and face off against: Jean-Claude Van Damme with his partner and sidekick aiding him: Jean-Claude Van Damme! It will be the best action movie in years.

A lot of accidental comedy. Particularly funny how they had to try to explain the characters' french accent. One is raised in a convenient french orphanage, and one is raised... in France, for some mysterious reason.

Viewed March 12, 2021. My favorite thing about Jean-Claude Van Damme movies is that they always explain why his character has a French accent, and this movie has probably the funniest example of that. It's not very good besides that, but also still much better than what passes for a movie these days.

Van Damme show-off scheme paid off. While the differences between the two lie mostly in body language and mannersisms (acting things), they're both equally chaotic and inconsistent in terms of behavior (writing things). Same goes for plot and story.

Double JCVD - double the fun? The brother concept was nicely implemented, the action ranged from quite good to just okay and the overall story was pretty basic. Just like with 'Lionheart', a better director than Lettich would have done the material well. But Bolo Yeung, some Hong Kong nostalgia and an explanation from JCVD on why he is great at doing splits elevated the movie to an enjoyable level.

I had fun watching JCVD in this double role, and it was very amusing to see how they explained both twins having the same accent, but most of the surrounding movie was pretty lame, unfortunately.

JCVD's first in a series of films where he plays twins as well as marking his screenwriting debut. Suffice to say, it is poorly written and acted and full of silly sequences, but Lettich directs with some style and mixes eastern and western action modes with a modest degree of skill, despite his blatant thievery. The Hong Kong locations are well used, alternating between lavish and seedy, and Lettich controls the pace just enough to make you forgive how preposterous and stupid it all is.

Double Impact is nothing more than "the Van Damme film with two Van Damme's". The mentality behind this project must have stretched no further than thinking that two Van Damme's must mean twice the amount of fun. But this is a forgettable and dull Jean Claude Van Damme film. And it's horribly written by the man himself. There feels like a lot of unnecessary effort to try and flesh out a legitimate story. But nobody could care or invest themselves in this completely ridiculous action film.

Nearly 25 years after seeing his father killed by Hong Kong crime boss Raymond Zhang (Philip Chan Yan Kin), Chad Wagner (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is living in Los Angeles as a flourishing yet peaceful martial arts trainer. But Chad has a twin brother, Alex (also Van Damme), who suddenly reunites with his less-aggressive sibling and wants to avenge their father's death. As the pair plan their payback against Zhang, they also struggle to overcome their personal differences.

Written by the man himself, and it shows. Bullshit script which tries to get laughs and fails horribly. Even with JCVDx2 there's very little in the way of action, and what little there is isn't good.

Identical twins, especially in those rare cases of separation, provide science with the opportunity to investigate the extent to which who we are is a product of our genes or, conversely, of our environment. But science can only go so far: it provides little insight into more fundamental, existential questions, about the inner world, about who we are at the deepest level. For that, one needs art.

This is a guilty pleasure, especially when it pales in comparison with other Van Damme films, but I like films like this as (pop) culture relics. It is interesting for me as a item, with influences from the 80s and multiple cultures mixed together, alongside a peculiar mix of the cartoonish and the brutal. The sight of Van Damme as twins, while potentially narcissistic, perversely becomes a trip into his view of himself, made even more fascinating when you see JCVD beat up JCVD multiple times.

Not Van Damme's best by quite a bit. Hong Kong is a great backdrop though, and nobody can take that away, even Jean-Claude Van Damme.
