“IDDQD haha movie you can’t hurt me now!” I remember when this movie was first announced they were trying to get Michael Douglas in the lead - we were all denied 90s Michael Douglas blowing demons away and then being blown by demons because of his demons. I did not enjoy this movie.

Now that he's become this generation's Last Action Kindergarten Cop, it is doubtful that we will ever again get to experience the cinematic marvel that is EVILROCK®, so put your brain into sleep mode and enjoy what people will probably only remember for being "that movie in 1st person which made people puke," despite the fact that scene is not only like 2 min. long, but so close to the end that if you'd been watching that long without vomiting, then you only have yourself to blame

i rarely rate a movie 0 but if anything deserves it, it's Doom. i'm willing to take into consideration that movies adapted from video games are overwhelmingly bad. The unforgivable sin of this movie is that it doesn't look or feel like the game at all. i can handle a shitty movie about a game. i can't handle one that's shitty and also doesn't even feel like the game. and also, don't kid yourselves, even the first person sequence was absolutely terrible.

Doom was one of the most revolutionary games in history. To dishonor it with this garbage is akin to making a movie about the light-bulb showing only how people stick them up their asses. Actually, that would be a better tribute than this piece of shit.

I’m got a weird thing with this one. Doom is so bad…it’s kinda crazy, especially when you have talents like Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban. However, with how horrid everything pretty much is, it makes it kind of fun. Some of the dialogue is so bad, it makes it’s goofy to watch. Sometimes I can go for something like that if I’m really fucked up, in this case…I was. Everyone has these types of movies they let slide a bit more than they should. This is one of mine.

Seems like I'll be playing "Captain Contrary" here, but this wham-bang shoot-em-up ALIENS knock-off is a fun ride from start to finish, with Johnson and Urban stopping short of full-bore camp with their simmering, macho characterisations and Bartkowiak keeping the action moving with an efficient snap. Certainly nothing groundbreaking or original here, but a sleek, slick genre piece, done to a turn.

Avoided this for yrs -- maybe I've seen that awful Predator-like quote coming ("If it breathes, kill it") -- and now I understand why. Despite that FPS homage sequence, Doom is a pretty lousy Alien for the Resident Evil films era, in which another science project goes wrong, This one is about a chromosome 24 used for researches that actually chooses who to infect: good ones become super-humans, or super-soldiers like Urban, bad ones turn into monsters, or super-soldiers like The Rock.

I actually feel that this has the spirit of the Doom games, and this is coming from a huge Doom fan. Both concepts are ridiculous, but it's enjoyable to revel in the ludicrous nature of the plot. However, in the case of a motion picture, I'm a captive audience. I wish I had a cheat code so a great actor like Karl Urban didn't have to be in this.

While we wait for Pac-man - the movie: Ebert noted that watching DOOM was like having a kid play a computer game in front of you. Actually, the "homage" scene to which he's referring, is - for better or worse - the only stand out thing in this indifferent mess, that proudly joins the ranks of Super Mario Bros, Lara Croft and Street Fighter in highlighting the problem with re-mediation: Bad screenwriters are incapable of writing interesting protagonists, if they aren't supplied to begin with.

Really appreciate that it doesn't waste much time on bs, but gets straight into the mission. Although it still takes some time until some real action it entertains sufficiently. It doesn't try to be more than it is; a second rate Aliens clone. High point is the FPS scene. Been too long since I played Doom to compare it with that, if I wanted to.

This was a blast at the time. Sure, some drinking may have been involved, but DOOM is not even a guilty pleasure, just a fine cheesy action film. The first decent videogame adap, with an extended first-person sequence which was better than anything in the abortive Doom 3 of the same era. A lot of it is 'so bad it's good', but taken on its own terms it's legitimately entertaining. Probably also plays a lot better at home on the small screen. Don't take it seriously and make a night of it!

BFG > Bio Force Gun You had a film that was clearly a hard R, based on a franchise of hard M games and you couldn't use the word fucking? Why did the extra-dimensional hell monsters get changed to generic mutants? Why is there a whole squad of space Marines? Is it because this is a poor ripoff of Aliens that used Doom as an excuse? Yes, yes it is.

So... The video game adaptation movie of Doom is actually based on Doom 3 instead of the classic games. The monsters don't come from hell, either. But other than that, it's actually kind of faithful to the source material (Pinky was spot on), and there's a pretty stellar first person sequence that almost makes up for the groans in this generic B-movie. To be completely fair, this could be the BEST video game adaptation I've ever seen.

A team of space marines known as the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, led by Sarge (The Rock), is sent to a science facility on Mars after somebody reports a security breach. There, they learn that the alert came after a test subject, a mass murderer purposefully injected with alien DNA, broke free and began killing people. Dr. Grimm (Rosamund Pike), who is related to team member Reaper (Karl Urban), informs them all that the chromosome can mutate humans into monsters -- and is highly infectious.

Everyone's direction in this movie was "open your eyes so wide we can see the white on either side of your irises" and the portal to hell is replaced by something about genetic markers for good and evil [LOUD GROAN]. So what starts as something that could've gone the bonkers route of Event Horizon (a guy rips his own ear off!) instead goes the more placidly bonkers route of a movie with an FPS segment.

I decided not to take off points for not evoking the game. No points lost because the adversary is mostly Revenant-like creatures, not Imps. No loss for the Duke Nukem references [but, why??].
I didn't even take points off for them ignoring the main reason Doom is a scary game. In Doom, you hear the enemies down the hall/in the next room - growling, stomping. You know what you're going to face. Why they would neglect the scariest thing in the game is insane.

The definitive example of why video game adaptations don't work. Fans of the game want to see the spectacle of the game on the big screen with fancier special effects, nothing more. Non-fans just want to see a decent movie. Doom doesn't satisfy either audience. Personally, I really liked the video games, and wanted to see some terrifying demons in a realistic movie setting. All we got was a handful of generic "mutants" and not even a huge sort of "boss" one might expect in the climax.

If you're a fan of the Doom games, then you're better off just going to play those. If you're not, and are just looking for an action-horror movie to pass a couple of hours, look elsewhere. Maybe go try the Doom games; I've heard they're pretty fun. This is a movie that isn't good, although it is loud and might allow you to escape from reality for a couple of hours. It has monsters, it has guns, it has soldiers, but that's all it has. The action scenes are poor and the horror is lackluster.

A ridiculously corny action film that drops the rather interesting 'hell-on-mars' concept of the video-game upon which its based for a more generic sci-fi slant. Poorly made, unintentionally hilarious, and often extraordinarily dull, the only interesting portion of the entire film is its first-person scene, which, despite being entertaining, is poorly done and filled with visible seams. The Rock slightly redeems the film, "Semper Fi, motherfucker!"

Awful, terrible, ungodly mess of a film, which was to be expected when it was based on a video game that didn't have much of a story to begin with. The movie abandons the plot about a portal to Hell being opened up and instead goes with a virus (or something) being found on Mars that infects all the people that live and work there. A somewhat cool sequence that is entirely in first person, but overall, this movie should be really avoided.
