Once things are revealed and you have a sense of what's going on you start to ask little questions like, who thought a big chase scene was needed. Who amongst the key demographic audience for this was on the fence until a ridiculous desert chase scene that steals the stupidest move from Top Gun as it's coup de grace? The continued effort to make movies not for anyone but for everyone is the failure of our generation.

A making-of documentary on this film would've been more engaging than the movie and its Girlie Get Out vibe. Olivia Wilde (in addition to wrongly casting herself in a key role) isn't cerebral enough to deal with the concepts this film wants to deal in. And the grounded parts--about rigid 1950's social conformity--aren't compelling on their own, which makes the fantastical bits even worse. And my audience, full of Harry Styles Stans, laughed at the wrong parts. Avoid. A major disappointment.

A well-acted, good-looking Bioshock meets Stepford Wives is let down by a weak script, that feels like they forgot to write a third act and just kinda winged it, when they got around to shooting it.

Did you know that "frank", the antagonist, the one who thinks himself brilliant when all he delivers is uninformed, self-aggrandizing, superficial crap that's clearly out of touch with reality, is based on olivia wilde?

So boring and unoriginal. Pieced together very strangely and written terribly. The positives? Some cool set design and aesthetic choices I guess.

Beyond the smaller quibbles about the slack pacing, the thematic obviousness and the variable performances Don’t Worry Darling doesn’t expose itself as an outright calamity until all its cards are on the table. There’s a message here about modern gender roles and reactionary politics, but Don’t Worry Darling is a fake-prestige movie, as vacuously embroidered as the world it’s trying to evoke.

Never a good sign where you'd rather watch a behind-the-scenes documentary than the film itself. It's never truly bad, but it just has so much unrealized potential. A good film lurks somewhere in here. I like that they tried to create Incel Harry Styles, yet he's still one of the hottest people on the planet.

While I can see the argument being made that this is a feminist depiction of an incel fantasy, that wasn’t my takeaway. It’s a cautionary tale of how easy things may come with some of the hardest sacrifices. This film wasn’t nearly as cerebral as it perhaps wanted to be but my audience (all women in their 20’s - presumably there because of Styles) murmured after the film that they had no idea what happened in the story. I’m disappointed that my younger fellow sex has never seen The Matrix.

After a remarkable buildup the big reveal is not as satisfying as it could have been. Nothing wrong with the acting and directing though.

I like the whole American dream aesthetic. The set design, costumes and sound design was very good. But honestly, it's not that special. Most of the acting performances, except Pugh, don't really stand out, and I feel like you could've made the film about 30 minutes shorter. With this runtime the film could've explored many more subjects and themes.

A staggeringly dull spin on Stepford Wives; Wilde's warmed-over knockdown of 50s suburbia is hardly cutting or edgy, just messy and ill-defined. As far as films of similar structures go, this isn’t as sharp or incisive as Get Out nor as kooky in its reveal as Rosemary’s Baby. It’s a mess and it doesn’t even have the decency to be a fun one.

Despite the talent behind and in front of the camera, Don’t Worry Darling feels kind of generic. To her credit, Wilde does have a nice visual flair to her work, and it makes some of the sequences pretty interesting, but somewhere along the way the screenwriting just isn’t all that. A lot of it due to it kind of being done before. Pugh is quite good though, and she really carried the second half of this film by herself. In the end, it’s fine, but more so a failed experiment.

Visually pleasing, strong performances, suspenseful, intriguing, mysterious. Explores themes of societal expectations, gender roles, and the illusion of perfection, with a gradual sense of unease. A severely underrated film.

It has a nice build-up to it; it doesn't show its hand lunch without being boring. Which leads to a rather well-handled climax. The setting is not extremely well-thoughtout but it still says something about the question of consent and control. It is not an extremely impressive film but not necessarily bad either.

This movie has very high production quality, but all the high end actors and quality cinematography masks the total lack of story telling ability. The plot is weak and sketchy at best. I loved the performances, and music, but the lack of story, diminishes it greatly. The plot bounces around, skips and burps along without making sense. I really wanted to like this, but building so heavily on a substandard story and dialogs is just wasteful, because something great could have been made.

It keeps its universe limited, which is not necessarily a bad idea since it helps keep things tidy. Unfortunately that also turns this movie into a visually glorified, cerebrally undercooked Black Mirror episode that for some weird reason cast Harry Styles in its lead. Pugh though. God damn she's amazing.

Nuclear suburbia is far from the aspiration of this film’s audience and nothing is done to immerse the viewer in it or make it desirable. The romance, too, is lackluster - constructed solely of oral sex and an almost-cute scene where Harry Styles mashes raw potatoes with a decanter. Because everything in this is based on the subversion of those two elements, everything fails to affect. A poor effort.

A visual delight with a potentially interesting premise, that winds up feeling undercooked. Florence Pugh is great, but slightly miscast. Harry Styles while not as bad as everyone says, is clearly outmatched by better actors. To me it really comes down to the screenplay. There are some intriguing ideas, but they aren't really explored or developed in an interesting way. It just feels like they could have done more with it. Not exactly worth watching, but I also wouldn't tell you to avoid it.

Styles has a long way to go, Wilde also terrible in the end. This is just a mess top to bottom, even the sound mix is off. The plot is as thin as a house of cards, you'll spend the whole time even when it's revealed asking "Why would it work like this?." Pugh will be fine though, she's great in everything, even this weak ass Stepford Wives wannabe. Falls apart HARD in the third act in a way I haven't seen in a while. It's like Reverse-Malignant.

Simply did not work for me. Apart from some aesthetic scenes & the use of mirrors (like Last Night in Sogo, but less impressive), I immediately felt that the underlying story would be based on much too simplistic tech stuff and end in disappointment. While it's always great to see Pugh get gaslighted (it's when her peak acting kicks in), it won't do wonders for a run-of-the-mill Black Mirror story.Fortunately any preachy political stances didn't get through, but that's probably unintentional.

This movie does not complete itself in a manner that makes sense in anyway for the story they are building. The final half hour is a showcase on why all your twists and turns cannot be left to try and sort themselves out through reveals. It makes no sense. The real world parts of this film make zero sense and don't make this film credible in anyway shape or form. It sucks because Pugh is amazing yet again and the film squanders every bit of that on lacklustre political commentary that fails.

New film-pet-peeve: intersplicing footage of (ballet) dancing throughout a film. Don't Worry Darling borrows heavily from The Stepford Wives but forgoes the comedy in exchange for what I believe was supposed to be a sense of panic. The visual aesthetic is the high point, when it avoids dipping into pretentious territory. There are some decent concepts but they're severely underdeveloped; though this is on par for the film's poor screenplay, frantic ending, and uncompelling narrative.

A movie that’s a nostalgic piece but not in the ways it’s intended. Mainly because we used to get hyped up by the Hollywood machine to see movies that sucked because famous folks involved caused some controversy. This was frequent. It’s not any more so of course the controversy has to be built up to this big moral outrage. Root of society type stuff when it was tepid. Explains this movie. Explains why the people making it thought that they were more important than they are

For something with this concept, it is just completely toothless. Pugh is great as always, but she has nothing to work with. Maybe the fact that Styles is a non-entity in his role is the problem. Maybe it's the writing that stays very on the surface of things. Too bad about some beautiful cinematography, when the end result is just blaaaaaand.

Set in a brightly-designed 50s Californian suburb community that is too vague about its form and existence to be anything else than imagined. We are waiting too long for the other shoe to drop, and when it does, it skews too generalized and anti-men. But even if the tone isn't well-modulated (always too hyper, incl. that F9 car chase), here is an interesting movie about the ideals of a conservative life.

When you remove this from the context of all the drama surrounding it, you realize that it was never worth that much attention. Not worthy of scorn or unadulterated adoration, it's a movie with an excellent performance from Pugh, great set designs and even good directing by Wilde. Movie looks and acts well. But so much could be trimmed from this. It repeats, it doesn't know exactly where to take itself, and honestly, the plot twist was disappointing. Stumbles its way through its themes.

There's a scene where dreamy DiCaprio stand-in Chris Pines says, "I expected so much more from you" which is appropriate since that's what could be said about the entire second half of the film. Wilde is quite adept with the film form, in terms of visual and sound design. But the pacing and acting (excepting Pugh and Pines) are rather poor, and the script should've been better when so much of its main themes were already fleshed out in The Stepford Wives.

Skandal film. Saç çekmeler, tükürükler, çimcik atmalar. Venedik'in en tartışmalı filmi. Filmimiz, ıssız 1 çölde, bahçeli müstakil evlerde, evli mutlu çiftlerimizi izliyoruz. Ta ki çiftlerden biri intihar edene kadar. Stepford Kadınlarına benzeyen film, Florence Pugh'un performansına yükleniyor. Fakat akılda soru işaretleri var. Chris Pine'ın 1 nevi tanrı olup, sonradan egolu rolüyle kışkırtıcı. Filmin sonunda, kurtuluş. Hey uçak güzel uçak, Büyük uçak. Beni de al. Beni de buralardan götür

Well thank God for Florence Pugh. This could have been a lot more risible without her. Sadly, sheer weight of acting talent can't drag this upward. (Chris Pine and Olivia Wilde back up well, Harry Styles is not awful. Faint praise I know). I'd like to send the antagonists the Evil Overlords Manual, where they can learn about fun things like guards and security and emergency procedures. It's fine, it could have been more.

a truman show of toxic masculinity. such a twist! I did very much enjoy the movie. some of the shots were incredible and some of the scenes downright wicked ! but I was disappointed with the build up of Pugh's downfall: it went from 0 to 80 and stayed there until the end. I wish there were more casual mistakes, small mishaps here & there would've elevated the story or even for Pugh to try harder to stay camouflaged. when she was taken away, it felt half-written and unnecessary.
