Doctor Mordrid

Cheesy, low-budget Doctor Strange knock-off manages to not totally suck thanks to Jeffrey Combs, who can sell mystical hoobajoob dialogue like nobody's business.

"Doctor Mordrid" is a bizarre relic from a pre-MCU era where low budget film makers could realistically aspire to adapt famous comic book characters into movies. The fact that Band couldn't even bother to make the movie while he had the option to the character is both a testament to just how not in demand comic book movies were, as well as his lack of any competence whatsoever. It's a crap movie, Combs is as wooden as ever, the magical part is that this is about as good a Band movie as there is.

Jeffrey Combs is good at being Doctor Strange with the serial numbers filed off, but everything else is pretty disappointing.

If you can't make Doctor Strange, settle for a budget imitation instead! Ironically, it is actually more entertaining than the existing Strange movie courtesy of Combs and the better than average production values for a Full Moon effort of its time. It fully embraces its B film status and makes it work, and the Bands also do a half decent job behind the camera. The sets have a cheap charm about them too.

This movie seems a lot better than it really is due to that it's not a totally virtueless piece of dung like just about every other Full Moon production. Still not exactly an award-winner

Don't make any mistake, this film is terrible, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. There are so many hamfisted fantasy clichés, horrible wardrobe and a cheesy bad guy, it's impossible not to have fun watching this silly thing. Did I mention the lead has a butthole mouth?
