This is much more low-key than Kusturica's later work, and also somewhat more conventional and less distinctive. On the other hand it's very solid in all respects, especially considering that it's the director's feature length debut. My favorite part of the film was the character of the father, played by Slobodan Aligrudic. I found the main character Dino to be a bit bland by comparison, however some of the scenes between him and "Dolly Bell" were very nice.

I imagine I'd appreciate this more if I was more familiar with the politics behind it, but even so Kusturica's first feature stands up quite well. Not as exciting as his other work, but I'd like to watch it again.

Once more one of movie that can be recognized just by people who lived in that place at that time (or later). Culture specific...

People who grew up in the former communist Yugoslavia tend to love this film, but the rest of the world probably won't. Too culture-specific, I'm afraid, and I don't really get all of it.

Many thematic elements in Dolly Bell are recognizable if you're already familiar with Kusturica's work. It's like a draft of a pastiche of his two subsequent films, both of which are unparalleled masterpieces. Unlike them it isn't perfect, but this debut film is Kusturica coming into stylistic and thematic being, and it's more accessible and a brilliant film in itself.

It is movie about life in ex-Yugoslavia in ordinary and simple family in Sarajevo. Film have quality in part of story about father (Slobodan Aligrudic), but the other part is seen in many movies.... And it is amusing too watch about people thinking in that "communistic" time in Yugoslavia and day dreams about future...

DVDRip no PirateBay.

Quite delightful. It's fairly simple stuff but is so charming I couldn't resist. I'm sure any of the political relevance of the film was lost on me, but watching this kid's growth was always interesting and the film has a warmth and sense of humour to it that I really enjoyed.
