Distant Lights

Middling slice of life drama at times feels like Germany's answer to Mike Leigh -- a disparate array of characters navigate through kitchen-sink dramas, though Schmid doesn't have tight enough control of his vast array of characters, which means the film often feels as if its rushing around keeping its plates spinning at the expense of telling a cohesive story - most of these scenarios have been told better (and more clearly) in other films. A noble effort, but a bit of a misfire.
