A pleasant, breezy comedy about two con artists trying to one-up each other. The cast is clearly having a ball, and the script throws us enough curve balls to keep everything lively. A great time.

Very, very funny comedy about two con-men at opposite ends of the con-man spectrum (if that makes any sense). Michael Caine is fantastic and Steve Martin, who I normally don't really like, was hilarious as well. I doubt I'll ever forget the dinner table with Steve Martin as an invalid with a trident. Great stuff with a neat twist at the end that I honestly didn't see coming.

This film is a joy. It's not a slay-me-with-laughter comedy, but it is a make-me-feel-happy comedy with plenty of chuckle-worth humor. I grab this one when I want a laugh but I'm too tired to handle debilitating hilarity.

Steve Martin and Michael Caine have excellent chemistry in this hilarious movie about two con artists. Caine, the charming, sophisticated one, is the perfect foil to Martin's crude, street-wise character. As they try to con a woman and each-other, there are some very memorable scenes, and Martin is at his comedic best. Really good!

An excellent mix of comedy and con-man action. The acting is brilliant, the cons are well thought and the overall chemistry between the leads is unbelievable. I do not line conmen (or conwomen for that matter), but the movie warmed me to them; which is a no small feat.

A throwback to the classic screwballs of the Hollywood Golden Age. Michael Caine plays his straight man dead straight, and Martin tones down his typical goofiness by having his character actually care about what he wants, and the results are fireworks. The personal touches (everyone's shoved into a bush for some reason, newspapers must be huge and inches away from the face; a tactilly abrupt comedy) turn an otherwise stock movie into something you can't buy; the highest quality magic. Hilarious.

Some very funny moments and line readings. Caine's deadpan when he says "Know your limitations. You are a moron" is wonderful. Some of it fails for either seeming to mug too hard for a laugh or having pretty poor production, especially the music. Caine saves it.

It takes some skill to stand up against Michael Caine and Steve Martin. Acting-wise, not necessarily street-fighting-wise. Either way, Glenn Headly does and steals the show.

A sometimes amusing romp on the sleazy side of life. A beautiful woman (Glenne Headly) seems like an easy mark, but proves to be the undoing of these two unscrupulous con men. Most of the movie is incredibly lame, but if you can stand the stupidity of Steve Martin and silly character acting from Michael Caine then there are several amusing moments.

Been awhile. I remember finding it mostly unimpressive except for a crescendo of funny midway through, and a cute ending. I think the comedy was built solely on plot and broad characterization, with forgettable dialogue and nothing to relate to. I remember feeling uninvolved.

There is more to this movie than I suspected. I was expecting more pratfalls because of Steve Martin of course and, while there were a fair share of them, the movie had a lot of heart and mystery. Martin and Caine have loads of chemistry on screen. From the beginning I could tell that Martin would be playing the bumbling American but there was a part of me that also suspected that he would get the better of Caine in the end. So, I was surprised to find that I was wrong. It's a good mix of a film

Viewed October 7, 2021. A more assured director could really have made something out of this movie's seesaw narrative and its implications about humanity's basest desires. The premise is there for a great screwball comedy in the mold of Lubitsch but as directed by Frank Oz, its various threads and sequences feel disconnected.

1964’s Bedtime Story is an underappreciated gem, and yet Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is still a rare example of a remake greater than its original; a tighter script, more outlandish gags and smart twist ending give the story a wonderfully fresh dimension. Caine and Martin even somehow better the dream Niven/Brando partnership. Ruprecht is an absolute scream.

This remake of the David Niven/Marlon Brando vehicle "Bedtime Story" is the first film directed by Frank Oz that didn't star any puppets. The film's slightness disguises the fact that it's really a ferociously funny little film, with both Caine and Martin in top form. They play very well off each other. Caine is all charm and verbal humor, in what is a really skilled homage to Niven, while Martin is very physical.

Good but not funny. Caine and Martin are great. They even make good use of a double ending. That said I simply can't overstate how unfunny it was, and not in a trying to be funny and failing way. This is a lighthearted romp more so than a movie with deliberate jokes. Also I can't stop thinking about how much Glenne Headly reminds me of Judy Greer.

Takes too long to set up its juicily comedic premise (a boring training montage headlines a needlessly in-depth relationship history) but it's pure hilarity and delicious dramatic irony as soon as Freddy rolls in on that wheelchair, hamming it up. Lawrence's first counter-move is probably the funniest (see the leg-whipping scene) but I would be remiss not to mention the delightful ending that subverts the scoundrels' sexism with not one but two punches-the first being shame, the second mercy.

Martin and Caine are great, Hedley's good, the direction is good - the script has problems. You could cut 30 minutes out of the first half of the movie and it'd be much better - and that had better include the loathsome scenes whose punchline is that mentally handicapped people are uncomfortable and gross. As well, the fun of seeing these two be savvy, suave conmen is diminished when all of their victims seem to leap into their arms. (Sure [SPOILERS] the last one was doing it on purpose, but...)

Yoda directed this film about con artists trying to outsmart each other. The film has a British aura about it, and not only because of Thomas Crown-ish character created by Michael Cain, but the whole humor is a bit British. It is a fairly entertaining and funny film, nothing I would like to watch again, though.

A pretty easy watch, with an excellent and somewhat surprising twist at the end. Both Caine and Martin were good, although Martin, in typical fashion someone is a bit, umm, exaggerated in his manner at times. But I guess that's an idiosyncrasy that you either love or hate about the guy. It's a fun watch, with some humour, and it doesnt take itself too seriously.

As someone with a keen distaste for remakes,I should hate this: after all, large chunks are taken wholesale from Bedtime Story. But I'd seen DRS multiple times before I'd even heard of the original, and comparing the two it's a far superior film: funnier, a smarter screenplay, and even better performances and chemistry between the leads. The score is spot-on too, providing a brilliant atmosphere and punctuating the gags perfectly. One of my all-time favourites and a movie I never tire of watching.
