Set against the decadent glamour and escalating danger of revolution-eve Cuba, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights re-imagines the 1987 film phenomenon from an exciting new perspective. Fluffy diversion is not materially different to Part 1 but considerably more enjoyable, largely thanks to Garai and Luna who make for a cute and charming couple, and some truly gorgeous sun dappled cinematography. Like Part 1, it has a peculiar habit of loading its lightweight ambitions with a quite serious undertone; the Cuban revolution sequences are an irritating distraction when it feels they are only included for cynical exploitative reasons. Still a nice piece of somewhat overwrought fun.

"Fidel Castro's revolution didn't break the backbone of a naïve Cuban population-it merely put an end to interracial shagging." - Ed Gonzalez

I am never a fan of when you set a film in the past but have everyone act like they are in the present. Javier was kind of a dick to everyone and not in the lashing-out type of way but in a contemptuous kind of way. I think that the biggest issue I have with the movie is the focus. In the first film, the focus was romance, discovering yourself, and believing in yourself. While in this movie it is more about the Cuban struggle with everything else taking a big back seat... eng; [dirty dancing: havana nights]; eine familie kommt nach cuba und die tochter nimmt dort tanzstunden - um daraufhin den klassischen stil mit dem rythmus zu verschmelzen.;

I actually like this better than the original. It's got an interesting sub-story with the Cuban events. The dancing is pretty good (can't touch Swayze, but still). I'm always a tad annoyed with the ending, but otherwise I like the movie a lot!

Brutal. I'm not a big fan of movies like this, but the original was okay. This was not.

Horridly cliched story and curiously un-genre-ic music set to dance in pre-Castro Havana. I don't know if the Mexican actor lost his Mexican accent for a Cuban one, but the lead actress certainly didnt lose her British accent for an American one. She did lose her two left feet though; we don't get too much Latin culture out here in Asia, but I loved the dance sequences tremendously.
