Turgid bodice ripper is at least beautiful to look at, set against the stunning scenery of Western Australia; almost seems to be aping RYAN'S DAUGHTER in setting its simple love story against such a vivid landscape, but takes its soapy romantic entanglements so seriously (weighed down by Macdonald and Hedlund's hangdog, passionless performances) that it starts as laughable and quickly becomes agonising to watch. Not even Wenham as Macdonald's husband? boyfriend? f-buddy? can bring life to this.
