Criticker thought I'd give this a 60. Clearly it thinks I'm a shmuck. This film is just awful. Uncomfortable to watch, barely ever funny, and it even kind of ruined the guy from Flight of the Conchords for me. I'm going to end this review with a note to Hollywood: Stop casting Zach Galifianakis as the same character every film. It was kind of funny at first but now I feel like I'm laughing at a guy with autism. Well, I would feel like that, if he were funny in this film.

Really, really, really, really, really bad. The whole film is based on the premise that Carell doing loud noises and Galifianakis playing the same character he does in everything is extremely funny. Its not.

The hype that surrounds Steve Carell as a title character precedes itself. The rising action can easily be characterized as boring and slow. Dinner for Schmucks had many hilarious interjections, but were loosely spread out through the entire film. The actual dinner part was the liveliest part but was cut short due to the rest of the movie. The acting though, on the other hand, was superior.

The dinner itself is the best part of the movie and as such is only 15 mins long. The rest of the movie was a long drawn out sitcom which would have solved itself if someone would have just called the police.

The original was an amazingly funny movie with very few characters & mostly taking place in one house. This movie is all over the place, a lot of characters, lot of stuff happening & a feel good ending. Not a patch on the original, but there are few laughs.

See if you can find the dinner scene on YouTube or something, it is worth the watch. Other than that it was highly predictable, but not entirely without humor. I had wondered what Carell's "talent" would be in the film, and I have to say that a taxidermist who dresses dead mice up and puts them in arranged scenes is pretty brilliant.

This is by far one of the funniest movies ive ever seen. Certain characters in the movie at a business firm find crazy weird poeple and invite them to dinner to make fun of. The main characters person was the funniest. everything he said was off the wall and hilarious. but while this is a comedy, the main character learned that although the person he met was funny, its not right to laugh at people like that because its not right and he ends up becoming good friends with him

Much better than I expected. Ridiculous premise for a film, but Roach and the cast just run with it (except for Stéphanie Szostak who is the weak link) such that it ends up a much more fulfilling film than it probably should be. The actual dinner scene is downplayed, respect to Roach for doing so. Lucy Punch is the standout performance; delightfully deranged.

Even Steve Carell can't save this movie from utter stagnation. He's trying, he really is. But there's only so much you can do with shitty dialogue. Lucy Punch screaming to be spanked? Octavia Spencer - Octavia motherfucking Spencer - cawing and squawking? What the fuck are you doing? The affable Paul Rudd is the medium between the audience and this circus, his dialed back performance acting as counterbalance to a world of impossible coincidences, outrageous misunderstandings and zero subtlety.

Carell's schuperb schmuck schtick ("I guess you could say I'm an eternal optometrist") centers this film, contributing to its great odd couple comedy, driving its excruciating Murphy's law plot (the brunch scene was a marvel of awkward horror), and providing hints of heart too. The potential inspirational message is botched in the messy pivotal dinner scene (Barry's beautiful dream presentation was overshadowed by the dumb hi-jinx afterwards) but the reunion at Tim's place was a nice recovery.

An OK comedy for a gathering between friends. An average business-man goes into a endless torrent of cliche misunderstandings while he tries to wins over his boss' favor using that new guy he just met. Carrel does an amazing job doing his part and while the joke sometimes went on for a little bit too long, at the end you will find yourself charmed by the hilarity of the situations. While "Dinner for Schmucks" is not the best the genre has to offer, you will definitely get a laugh out of it.

It's fairly amusing, mostly because I found Rudd and Carell to be likable. But the story sort of dragged, and it wasn't that hilarious, especially with the main concept being the world's funniest dinner. It didn't help that the romantic aspects and the extremes of stupidity often felt contrived instead of sincere.

Often funny and over the top, because the roles of Carell and Ruud provide some good gags and jokes -- and Roach proves he's still the master of comedies about embarrassing situations --, but Dinner is, for the most part, also an overlong and overtoned film.

This was pretty goddamn bad. A lot worse than I expected. I pretty much only watched it because I like several of the actors in it, but I'm not sure they were really worth it at all. It's a good 20 minutes or more too long. It tries desperately to inject drama and emotion into the story and it just doesn't work one bit. But probably the worst part of it was that it wasn't funny, which is pretty disappointing when it's supposed to be a comedy. I don't think I truly laughed once. I say avoid it.

Although this movie had some annoying parts to it, I will say that it was also pretty enjoyable. I thought the work with the Mice Taxidermy (You'll have to see for your self) was really cute and the story itself was pretty endearing at the end. Potentially there was a good film here, hidden underneath all the bad direction & editing. "Dinner for Schmucks" has one or two really nice moments, & is amusing. Unfortunately this film emphasises all of its own weaknesses & none of its strengths. The focus on the Rudd's romance & the slapstick elements take away from the high potential of Carell's character & his relationship with Rudd. All this movie had to do was focus & expand on the emotionally fragile mad taxidermist! Swing & a miss.

Where could this go so wrong? I'm guessing it was doomed from the start. Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis---you have all three caused me side-splitting laughter in your other endeavors. In 'Dinner for Schmucks' I wanted my eyes gouged out and ears pealed off my head. Even that wouldn't have been as painful as this movie. Dead in the water from beginning to end, the movie expects us to accept completely bizarre characters in an otherworldly planet with zero laughs per two full hours.
