An actual German talking adaptation of the same source material as Sunrise (1927). Does Die Reise nach Tilsit [The Trip to Tilsit] (1939) live-up to the original? Mostly no, but then again, how could it? Sunrise was amazing. The two leads do make the roles their own, and there is a certain dynamic there that works, though a more stiff and subdued presence. It's definitely a good movie, which no doubt will forever be kept in the shadow of Murnau's eternal classic.
