Overly familiar, some of the dramatic moments are perhaps painted too broadly, but I did appreciate how unflinchingly this handles some of its less savory elements. Hard not to think of Eighth Grade, of course, while watching this, and that’s not a comparison that favors Didi, but it does occasionally hold a similarly effective degree of cringe and painful awkwardness.

Glad to see that the nostalgic coming-of-age movie has finally reached my generation.
