To (somewhat unfairly) take Mekas' words out of context from the film: "And now, the viewer...Just watch these images. Nothing much happens. The images go. No tragedy, no drama, no suspense, just images for myself and for a few others. One doesn't have to watch, one doesn't. But if one feels so, one can just sit and watch these images..." This is technically true, but I'm not sure why one would want to. Similar to Warhol stuff but a bit better due to the variety. Boring and overlong. Bad combo.

Mekas comes into his own with this landmark DIY diary film setting the path for many of his subsequent works.

hard to compare to the longer similar As I Moved Ahead... this makes less of a moving statement butbetween the two this has more of my favourite moments

Fans of Stan Brakhage, and other experimental works in the same vein as Sans Soleil will find plenty to enjoy, but with it closing in on 3 hours, patience is a requirement.
