"Diamond Jim" does what it takes to make a ruthless businessman likable to the viewer. Even his excess seems like a virtue.

These types of historical films rarely worked as epic as they tried them to be. We follow the life of legendary business man 'Diamond' Jim Brady with the look-a-like Edward Arnold chewing up every scene and every one for 1 & 1/2 hour. He's great, but it doesn't matter if the script was written by Preston Sturges or if Jean Arthur is his target of flesh or if he has funny man Eric Blore by his side or if the film has a 7 page line-up of actors. This film is nobody's business by Edward Arnold's.
