Detenuto in attesa di giudizio

Almost like a clownish Costa-Gavras, Nanni Loy's anti-establishment prison film is occasionally a bit fanciful, and tinged with a slightly comedic tone that seems out of place, but generally severe and quite gripping. Sordi himself reflects these contradictions in his performance. His character reprises that of "Mafioso" - a toadying, sniveling innocent, but should have been a bit more complex and dynamic in this one. His world turns upside down and it doesn't seem to change him at all.
