The Italian mountaineer Carel wants to be the first man to stand on the top of the Matterhorn. Since the climb is very difficult, he agrees to try it together with the British mountaineer Whymper. Regardless of language, I liked these films. Luis Trenker is a European film maker I've come to admire a lot because of the way he uses nature and combines it with stories of human pride. And that is the core of The Challenge (1938)/Der Berg ruft! (1938). While these doesn't reach any massive climax, it's a rounded and easy to understand tale of the competition among mountain climbers and an entire village emotionally involved. And one can easily enjoy both.
