Den allvarsamma leken

I got caught up in it. Karin Franz Körlof was quite good. While it perhaps doesn't have a singular claim to fame, it's hard to put a finger on anything at all.

Well acted story of a man and a woman who fall in love when young, and remain in love, but stay separated and marry others. Adaptations of books either deal in detail to flesh out the character arcs and their psychological depths or have to condense years of story to a shorter period of time. This movie opts for the latter. Therefore it feels rushed, actions of the characters feels idiotic at times and motivations have to coalesce into almost singular themes that lose depth.only so-so.

Well-acted and with some nice shots, and maybe it's because I just read the novel, but it feels rushed despite the 2-hour run time. Without the character introspection and the sense of long stretches of time passing, the story just feels flat and the characters frequently like careless idiots (which, well, they're supposed to be, but not like that). The fact that it mostly ignores the period setting apart from the clothes irks a bit too.

The two main characters behave like spoiled, annoying kids from beginning to end. At least it's well-made.
