Deluge

An doomsday film where a massive earthquake destroys USA with a great flood that wipes out the big cities. They used a long sequence showing the destruction of New York and other cities. You can clearly see that building collapsing are small miniature settings, so the demolishing looks more.... cute and cheesy.... then devastating with the dated special effects. However the image of the disaster is put across effectively. A ambitious project by the small K.B.S. Productions Inc.

One of the first disaster movies. For reasons never made clear, the entire world is hit with floods, earthquakes, and an eclipse. For the time, the special effects of New York crumbling are pretty well done even it is clearly models. The story has some compelling moments but the wooden acting and bare bones script keeps this firmly in B movie territory. The short running time, 70 minutes, works to the movies advantage as it keeps things moving.

Very early apocalyptic/disaster film when this was still a very fresh genre, with only a couple of examples coming before it. The destruction aspects are really fun, really pushing the special effects of the period to their limit to good effect. After that, with few survivors, it turns into almost a western, which isn't quite as interesting. At barely over an hour it's worth a look, though.

O dilúvio estreava há 90 anos nos EUA. Esse é uma sorte estarmos vendo em 2023, considerado um filme perdido por décadas, em 1981 o Luigi Cozzi colocou na roda uma cópia dublada em italiano, mas só em 2016 encontram na França uma cópia com áudio original em inglês e foi essa a cópia que vi. É um filme bem impressionante para a época, mesmo sendo evidente que os efeitos especiais se tratam de miniaturas, mas o potencial distópico é bem interessante. Ambitious model and compositing effects and even the stock footage works okay because the montage is so good. Interesting cast, staged well enough, but the story details are stock. Hero's speech at the end is of the "let's rebuild, and better this time" variety but it's unclear what he's talking about because the earthquakes were nobody's fault and no one left seems to have any politics in particular.

Once thought lost, this protodisaster film has interesting (if dated) special FX (much of which turned up in various serials and features over the next twenty-five years) but is bogged down by melodramatic acting and a dull love story subplot that takes center stage too much of the time.
