Defiance

I really liked this and it goes well with Flynn's "Rolling Thunder". It follows the usual tropes and while the characters are cliched (reclusive hero, girl next door, young kid), they have enough depth and feel like real persons. Vincent is not a versatile actor but he is a good fit here. The film is surprisingly tame and lacks the nudity and extreme violence associated with vigilante films of the era, but it has plenty of suspense and some kick ass scenes. Latin inspired score works very well.

"Death Wish 3" if it was less extravagant and more down-to-earth. John Flynn has a certain grasp of reality, and despite Defiance's generic premise, there's enough grit and the characters are expressive enough for it to reach a good amount of tension.
