A movie doesn't have to be deep, to be enjoyable. Deep Rising has everything a good B-Movie needs... it has bad CGI, dorky bad guys and just unbelievable events that unfold throughout the film. Treat Williams does a great job keeping the cheesiness flowing in the film with his boyish good looks and his devil may care attitude. Famke Janssen brings some much needed smoulder to the movie as the sexy thief...

A fun entry in the subaqueous-monster subgenre. While this (like dozens of other modern monster movies) obviously owes a major debt to _Alien_, Sommers and crew imbue the bloody proceedings with sufficient spirit to make the scares and laughs play relatively fresh. Jerry Goldsmith's full-throated score adds a pulse-pounding aural dimension.

Gurglingly silly, but irresistible mash up of ALIENS and THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE gets considerable mileage from a well-chosen cast, who make it difficult to predict who will survive or die, and a monster whose particular method of eliminating its victims is ghoulish enough to be memorable (and increase the viewer's heart-rate a jot!) Nice work as always from Heald, playing a grease-mark personified - arguably stumbles at the finale by trying to be too shaggy or trying a set-up for a sequel.

Annoying and weird characters (hate the protagonist), monster design.. meh.. could've been better, but has an awesome ending. Not a terrible watch, but not a great one either

"Squid on a Cruise Ship" would've been a much better title.

Surprisingly fun if you can look past the weird holes in the plot, characters doing stupid things, and the lines sometimes coming out entirely cringe-worthy. The monster design is nice and there's never any boring moment in the movie. Beni from Mummy stuck out the most and mostly the characters are just safe stereotypes of the sultry thief, the leader, the comic sidekick, and the evil guys who just seem to enjoy shooting at nothing and generally being completely ineffective 95% of the time.

A bad film. A good, bad film. Good, trashy fun. Yes, it's proper corny and cliched, but it's a classic monster romp - people get picked off one by one and you play "guess who's next". It's kinda like "Aliens meets Titanic" - a James Cameron double whammy that's not in the style of James Cameron. Things get silly towards the climax and the tonal shift at the end is cringe, but I wasn't bored for a moment of the runtime, and that's more than I can say for a lot of films.

Going in unknowing this was a great surprise, cause the movie first seems to become a crime movie on cruise ship before turning actually into a monster movie on a cruise ship. It has a cool racially diverse ragtag team of criminals and survivors. The first half that relies on suggestion is a bit better, because therefor more suspenseful, than the second when the CGI-monster is shown. But overall a highly enjoyable fast-paced movie.

Its got some B movie charm, but there aren't really any likable characters and it all falls apart.

Sommers' love of horror schlock finds its most affectionate expression in Deep Rising, a knowingly cheesy amalgam of man-eating-monster movie cliches that treads a fine line between clever and stupid. He assembled a solid b-grade cast, and Williams shines as the sardonic reluctant hero, while O'Connor is typically reliable as comic relief. It's a fast paced film with many thrilling scenes, and Bottin's squid like creatures, while not his best work, move quickly with extreme menace.

A fun adventure schlock of a movie from one of the masters of schlock, mister Stephen sommers. This was made still in his "golden age" with classics such as the mummy and the mummy returns, which were entertaining. tho van helsing and what followed really , really wasnt. A good popcorn flick, worth multiple viewings

Typical brainless and squeamish monster movie, but it was fun and entertaining.
a very much guilty pleasure of the late 90's.Taking this movie seriously would be a headache.
From the starting plot,it has been downright ridiculous. Its all about absurdity and campy creature effects.
In other words, mediocrity at its finest.
nonetheless,a monster flick that was only meant for cheap thrills, nothing else matters.
