There's a reason this is on so many "worst Christmas movies of all time" lists. The writing is awful, the characters unsympathetic, the message hypocritical, and the comedy unfit for a third-tier SNL skit (the most memorable bit involves dads ogling their own daughters). Avoid at all costs.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Extremely stupid and unfunny Christmas movie that includes women who seemingly have no brain and an ending that is highly manipulative. An extremely bland movie that is the film equivalent of junk food.

The cast are willing, but the script is hilariously far from able. Still, 'tis the season.

{{ CHRISTMAS MOVIE MARATHON DAY - 6 }} It's not good, but not terrible either. It falls into the unfortunate unremarkable movie abyss, where your film isn't good or bad enough to be remembered for any reason. The best thing I can say about it is that it's a Christmas movie that feels like a Christmas movie, bland as that may be. It's trying it's best to be "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", but can't stand on it's own two feet. Not worth re-watching.

Do you hate Matthew Broderick? Because that would be the only reason to watch this, yet another one of those "Good-natured if anal-retentive protagonist gets endlessly tortured/humiliated until the heartwarming ending" type movies. Predictable, formulaic, and frustratingly stupid.

I like the music, the whole idea of more and more decorations (= eyecandy) and competing, but seeing so many stupid women who are probably shown only as a fapping material is kind of wrong. Danny DeVito may not be at his best here, but still, together with Matthew Broderick's character, are saving this movie's heroes' personalities. It resembles "Christmas Vacation"with unforgettable Chavy Chase where everything seems to go wrong, so just treat this movie as a second, worse version or something.

Well, you would never go to the cinema to watch this dross (seriously, you shouldnt), but if nothing else is on the tele, and its Christmas Eve, and freezing cold, its pretty much the archetypal nauseatingly daft American family "Christmas comedy" that you can watch whilst stuffing the turkey and it doesnt matter a damn if you miss huge chunks of the film ... it defines "predicatability" ... but its not the worst Hollywood has put out, and DeVito is always fun to watch.

Deck the Halls is a passable holiday movie. It isn't outrageously funny but it contained some laughs. It had a cast of very funny people so it should have had a few more but for what it was it wasn't too bad. Being a holiday movie it should have a sweet family related story and it hits on all cylinders in that respect. Broderick plays a good uptight small town businessman. DeVito does a good job of playing a not-so sleezy used car salesman. The rest of the family dynamic was underutilized.

For a christmas movie, it was not that bad. Some jokes made me laugh, mostly the more adult jokes and blink and you miss kind. A lot of silliness too so I guess you can trick kids into sitting still during it.

One of those films where there is no consideration for the world existing outside of the main plot. Why does no one else on the street have an issue with a super-bright, loud house? The tone of this film is so strange -- is this a family movie? Why does it open with a joke about Broderick's boner? Also, the incest joke needs to be seen to be believed.

Mostly forgettable and at times terrible but at other times sort of funny 'Christmas as competition' movie.

This movie is bad. It really is. I actually quite like Danny DeVito and he himself isn't necessarily bad, but he doesn't get that much room to function here having to answer to Matthew Broderick and Kristen Chenoweth's characters in the film. It doesn't help that many jokes fall flat too.

Se não fosse pelo Danny DeVito, o filme, que já é ruim, seria horrível. Ou ele fez por diversão, ou pelo dinheiro.

I am a sucker for Christmas family comedy movies, so you can see why I decided to give this a try even with all the low reviews this one had got. And the outcome - this is trite, predictable and not even remotely funny or heart-warming.
