This movie is carried by its beautiful sets and cinematography. Giving Poirot a proper character is a major improvement, his clouded judgement helps the suspense. Adapting Agatha Christie is a recipe for success, and this movie is no exception - much more than the previous one.

Branagh is at peak skill as an actor and director, but like his last forray into Christie it's painfully obvious the murder mysteries of yore don't stand up in a post Usual Suspects era of detail. Good effort, but flat and stilted.

Death on the Nile is on par with Branagh's previous middling foray into the world of Christie & Poirot. The sets & costumes are lavish, but Branagh seems more concerned with how his cast swaggers in & out of each shot, rather than making their time onscreen anything more than a tired pastiche. The story isn't too bad (at least I preferred it to Orient Express) but it's lacking in both intrigue and thrills. It was nice to see French & Saunders back together though.

This doesn't hold a candle to the 1978 version, which is probably my favourite classic Whodunnit, but it is breezy and good-looking, and for nothing else should be commended to for dedicating an entire prologue to Poirot's moustache's origin story.

The prologue pretty much sums up why Branagh isn’t a great fit for these Christie adaptations. It’s a flashy and superfluous prelude to a fairly vapid mystery/thriller that totally misunderstands the appeal of Christie’s meticulous, but dry, work. With both Murder on the Orient Express and now this, Branagh has constructed two forgettable and underwhelming features, despite (or perhaps because of) his needless showmanship masking the shallowness of his adaptation.

Better than the 2017 Poirot movie, but still not great. Armie Hammer was really weird in the first 45 minutes. I really like Kenneth Branagh and I'm starting to like his take on Poirot. Bonus points for more humor that I actually found funny.

I liked it. Not sure the mustache needed a back story but I'm warming to Branagh's Poirot. The quiet but firm rage pushing past the jovial exterior. The rest of the star studded cast lives up to the billing.

Poirot's moustache is less ridiculous this time around, and it's one of Christie's most ingenuous plots. Not as brilliant as Guillermin's superior 1978 version but nevertheless a slick and successful whodunit.

Despite having a very good cast, the story was not handled as well as many other Poirot movies. Performances were good. I blame the director for it not living up to its potential. Alternatively, I suppose editing might have hurt it. In any case, the story is not very engaging and they keep pulling the rug out from under you. The final conclusion was rather unremarkable due to its general lack of plausibility.

I'm a sucker for Poirot, so I was excited for this and naturally enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunate that everything looks CGI. Even the simple dialogue scenes between the characters for some reason, so there's a sense of something phony about the film's presentation which takes one out of the story a little bit. It's still Agatha Christie and a complex murder story delivered quite well. I knew the solution already, but as compensation it was fun engaging the family in guessing who the killer was.

This movie falls on pieces from the direction to the horrendous CGI which isn't able to blend with the authentic shots. I do prefer cut a few corners on the evident initial infodumps fired both on Poirot and on us to present all the possible victims and murderers during the wedding party even before any murder is committed

It's shot beautifully and I haven't read the book or watched earlier adaptations to compare, but my enjoyment was diminished after I guessed the solution in the beginning. This one is a lot more watchable than Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express since it actually takes the time to develop the mystery and shows, rather than tells. Gal Gadot was one of the better actors so she was missed in the 2nd half. Costumes and mannerisms seemed very modern. Fav scene: Bateman's death was a gut punch.

Ultimately just kind of boils down to a double length Monk episode with a lush color scheme and retro style costuming - complete with black and white “here’s what happened” recap at the end & socially awkward detective with lost love. Which is to say watchable if unremarkable. Strong cast with a fair number of hot chicks anyway. Being that Kenneth Branagh is in his 60s if he wants this to be an ongoing series he should prolly start pumping em out wayyy faster.

I remember almost nothing about the installments before this (not a great sign) & I'm guessing I'll forget most of this too. It's good enough for fans of this kind of stuff (pretty to look at, lots of good actors & the killers a surprise) but it's also too long (cut out those blues numbers), the dance sequence is over-the-top, the pretty images are obviously CGI'd & the killers motivation is extremely implausible. Poirot knowing about how Nile water affects paints is also very Adam West Batman.

Enjoyed it about as much as Orient Express. It comes and goes with its decent little murder mystery. There were some visual flourishes that didn't work. There is a moment when Poirot (who is a good character) is revealing the events where it stops on his face and he's emotional, and that was about as impactful as the movie got.

Being someone who read the book a week out from this release I have a general idea of this material. To it’s credit, Death on The Nile (2022) does a good job of generally sticking to it’s main source material, despite it’s many insignificant little changes. However, this story doesn’t adapt that well to a full fledged movie, especially if a movie on this already exists. It does a fine job of being entertaining enough, but it just doesn’t feel like something I’ll ever revisit.

Movie Marathon 2, It looked beautiful and I like the changes they added to some of the characters, it made me more interested in the story even if I had seen it before in the movie from the 70s. The acting was good as well. I like that they put less ridiculous forced action than the first movie, it is a strong enough story on its own without weirdly disjointed action scene like the first movie had. The second more down to earth quality is pleasant.

Kenneth Branagh'dan Agatha Christie'ye saygı filmi. Bu sefer, zengin kızımız, yeğeninden çaldığı yakışıklı kocasını korumaya çalışmaktadır. Müfettiş Hercule Poirot, balayı tatilinde korumalığını yapar. İlk 1 saat tanışma faslı olarak geçen film, son 1 saat polisiye cinayet soruşturmasına dönüşüyor. Mısır'ın güzellikleri cezbediyor. Fakat fazla görsel efekt. Oyunculuklar çok sıradan. Gal Gadot iyi.

The dialogue and how it's delivered was obnoxious. The backgrounds looked incredibly fake. The modern politics added in just ended up feeling more out of place and took me out of the story a few times. For some reason, the camera work wants to make you think you are watching an adventure film instead of a twisted whodunit. shorter than the 1978 version but felt longer.

Branagh pulls decent performances from himself and others in a scene or two, but largely this is an artless and plodding adaptation without a single suspect except real-life-cannibal Shia LaB—Armie Hammer. Somehow the video game backgrounds aren’t even the worst part, thanks to pointless “commentary” on love and relationships. In sum, the film is as effective and enjoyable as the honeymoon was for Linnet Ridgeway.

It takes so long to get to the eventual mystery that you have already figured out the whodunnit of it all. Everything that tries to be clever reminds you that most of these people are innocent and it leaves little to be desired about who and why this crime was committed. It does have some emotional moments but overall it was a misfire and there was hardly any chemistry between Hammer and Gadot.

After being quite underwhelmed by Orient Express this proved to be a pleasant surprise. Despite an odd opening, 'Nile' is is a much better constructed murder mystery than 'Orient' (though still not perfect by any stretch) and despite identifying the murder early isn't impossible, the exact nature of the intricate details will surely remain a mystery until the reveal. Even better looking than 'Orient' with more memorable performances, 'Nile' isn't going to win any awards but entertains nicely.

More flashy than introspective. I don’t think Poirot needed to be this central in a story that effectively isn’t about him. I haven’t read the novel but guessed in the first 30 minutes who will be murdered by whom and why. Instead of Poirot lamenting about his lovelife or lack thereof, the story should have focused more on the rest of the cast so it would’ve been more laborious for viewers to guess whudunnit. Now it was broadcasted early on and intrigue to the mystery killed collaterally.

Trying to force some modern swagger, sense of adventure, to Chriestie’s material - and failing. The unfocused and confused visual style with the camera wooshing around constantly, the unnecessary efforts to introduce depth to Poirot’s character, the expensive-looking but plastic and superfluous style… all work to create distance to the world of the film. Two main female leads were mainly strong (Gadot, Mackie); but behind them the all-star cast stayed anonymous at best, being mostly annoying.
