Concept behind movie is good. I don't understand why it is not mentioned anywhere, but the boy is deaf which provides another interesting angle. Some good parts, but after moving slowly through the early parts, it then really rushed through the conclusion. This lead to one of those endings where your thinking "the credits aren't coming now are they? oh your kidding me! what the heck?!" Good tutorial on skipping rocks provided too.

Touching movie. Made from the female point on view, so the plot was a bit on unknown territory. Acting was a little shabby but the musical score totally saved the film.

This is a real 'weepy' of a film, in a good way. The story is lovely and the film didn't feel too over the top, sentimentality wise - ok its a bit sentimental but it wouldn't be right if it wasn't - it isn't choc full of cliches and over the top maudlin music though. I like that it's set in Scotland (where I'm from) and it has a decent cast. I really felt for the characters and enjoyed watching it, so yes, I'd recommend it.

Top badass moment? Just for a change, Gerard Butler doesn't save the President of the United States. It’s slow and there’re no explosions or aliens, but despite these glaring omissions this really is a nice little film. It’s best just experienced; fretting over the plot holes or the twist at the end will just stress you out. It’s set near Glasgow, where I recently had a five minute conversation with a guy, without understanding a word he was saying. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Really like this film, the slow pace suits it, wish the resolution wasn't so rushed but it still works.

At times touching and then funny. Butler was great. Recommended.

An effective family drama that's a little too slow.

Heartwarming, sweet, and perfectly dramatic. Brilliant performances by Emily Mortimer and the young Jack McElhone.
