This was quite possibly the most solid way to tell a Deadpool story. I was able to tolerate Ryan Reynolds too (he was made for this role). It delivers the right amount of humor and violence to be Deadpool! Breaking the fourth wall allowed the film to be even more funny. Personally loved the opening credits. Colossus was really good. Story was solid enough. Should entertain fans of Deadpool and maybe even newbies. I'm glad it didn't flop.

Fuckin' A. Fuck 2.5-hour origin stories. Fuck "who watches the watchmen". Fuck grade-school Nietzscheisms. Fuck angsting about using your powers. Fuck continuity. Fuck exposition. Fuck loners learning to be a team. Fuck spin-offs. Fuck politics. Fuck contrived misunderstandings. Fuck digital filters that make everything look grey. Fuck dark worlds. Fuck alternate universes. Fuck reboots. Fuck the X-Men. Fuck the MCU. Fuck DC. And fuck Deadpool while you're at it, but you'll have to get in line.

Reynolds is to Deadpool, what Robert Downey jr. is to Ironman. Made for the part. Deadpool is a perfect mix of funny, gore and nerdgasm. The story itself is rather thin but the fun and high tempo of the movie makes up for this. Funniest super-"hero" movie i've seen for a while. Good on you Reynolds. Finally a movie that understands the character of Deadpool.

At what point does explicitly flaunting the fact that a film is following generic origin stories unerringly absolve it of the fact that it is just another generic origin story with bad attempts at meta-humor? Deadpool can revel in its cesspool of banal sex jokes and snide asides, but the entire time the film was just trying to mask its mediocrity by throwing a barage of jokes/gore at us and hoping most would stick. Somehow, I feel like Kickass already filled whatever void this film tried to.

"Deadpool" is a vapid, emotionless superhero movie catering to the adult audience with childish humor and super-violence. And, you know what, it's exactly what a big man-child like myself wants. I'm not too proud to say it. Reynolds is perfect, and the jokes are awesome, the action is great, but the truth is that the story just didn't do it for me the way it should have. They had to devote too much time to setting up relationships and back story on this one. Maybe next time it'll be amazing.

It does the same SuperheroOriginSchtick we've seen time and time again, but now it's (only partially) hidden behind a flashback-y structure, piles of dead bodies and dick jokes. All in all, the end result is... well, Deadpool-y enough to appease my inner geek for now. Reynolds seems to be enjoying himself, good for him. But much like our local pool it's all a bit shallow and filled with lifeless characters. ...Maybe I need to move to a less crime-heavy area.

Cheekily self-aware and irreverent right from the great frozen-in-time opening credits (the People cover is perfect), Deadpool is loaded with outrageous dialogue ("Kidnap her!") and hilarious edits ("Happy Lent") to go with frequent 4th wall breaks and superhero satire. By the end though, it becomes just as predictable as what it's satirizing (you know he's going to cut off Colossus' speech). The lead's shallow motives also thin the plot; some more study of his tragic side would have been good.

Deadpool manages to take me back to my days as a kid, reading gleefully violent comics like Trencher and Bloodwulf, while still being thoroughly of its time and completely its own thang. I guess the writers realized they had a potentially standard origin story on their hands, so they fuck aboot with chronology, meta hijinx & an everything-but-the-kitchen sink approach to violence and end up with one of the best comedies of recent times.

When it hits its mark, it's a glorious hilarious violent raunch-fest. My complaint is that these moments are actually a bit few and far between given that it's the entire premise of the movie. Spends way too much time on filler so that in the end we only end up with about 4 balls-to-the-wall scenes. If it were non-stop Deadpool kicking bad guy's heads off while dropping profanities that would make Wolverine blush, to the sweet sounds of DMX, this score would crack the top two tiers.

At the heart of it, a pretty by-the-numbers superhero origin story, and its attempt to make Wade Wilson work within the (serious) X-men universe, feels sort-of out of place (and takes up too much time) in what's otherwise a pretty hilarious genre spoof; one, in which Good Guy Reynolds FINALLY landed the superhero he deserves, and delivers a pitch perfect, cartoon crazy, Deadpool.

An R rating does nothing to change the fact that at its heart this is just another shitty superhero origins movie with the same tropes and sensibilities as any other superhero movie. Reynolds is as annoying as he usually is, and the whole thing isn't nearly as subversive or smart as it's trying to be. Nothing to see here folks.

It brilliantly captures the spirit of the cult comic, with a relentless barrage of filthy (and often hilarious) comedy and some good bloody violence, with Reynolds playing the wise-cracking mutant assassin beautifully. The other characters however aren't really interesting at all, and the film has a tired, formulaic structure, a shortage of action scenes and a disappointing final set piece.

Meh. The sophisticated plot sequencing doesn't hide the same old origins story we've watched a dozen times now at the cinema. The adult rated violence, sex, and language doesn't hide the puerile sensibility. Its fearlessness in saying and showing us anything they want doesn't hide that they actually have nothing to say about anything, and can't show us anything we didn't already see in Kickass. The script needed an extra act, as well as an additional layer of irony, before it deserved attention.

hear hear! the most daring marvel feature! so this is what happens when you stuff a joke-generator with as many pop cultural references as will fit. call me old fashioned, but i like my puns like i basically like everything: in doses. this is just throwing 'em out, you choose which ones stick. that's not daring, that's just lazy. but then again, so is everything down to the "plot". flatpool has its 4 or 5 moments, but anything besides that is a waste of talent, money and worst of all: time.

Given a little more actual maturity to support it, I could have more comfortably laughed at the consistently amusing content; for while it was obtusely crass and held back no words or wounds, it only hinted at character development, and while it gleefully and cleverly subverted little stereotypes, it didn't have the guts to play with what ended up as a terribly overdone, seen-before romance.

Every pop culture reference, from the subtle to the obvious, works like a charm (as the self proclaimed Pop Culture King, I would know) as I got every single fucking one of them! About as perfect an opening sequence as you can get, it had me grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Can't wait for the sequels, chikah-chi-kaaah!

Built around a character that's geared entirely toward teen boys (he's 50% bad-ss and 50% wise-ss), it's no small feat that this film manages to be far better than its tiresome and R-rated Mad magazine-like source material. It does this by offering up far better humor, its non-linear structure, occasionally stopping the riffing and allowing the audience to feel emotions like horror or sadness that allow us to give a damn, & bringing in two much better behaved X-Men to bounce off of.

It's your average superhero movie with attempts at humor that fall flat every half-minute. Honestly, the biggest disappointment is how close the film plays to the average comic book movie script. There's an origin story, an average bad guy, CGI-heavy action scenes, forgettable soundtrack, fast-paced editing, all the elements of your average superhero flick but with tits, blood, and curse words.

Rode a very tight line between changing up enough to be called different from typical superhero fare but still leaving the average schmuck comfortable with how the story and character beats went. It mostly worked and made for a fun movie experience. The jokes varied in quality and cleverness but were mostly fast paced one-liners so depending on how you like that kind of comedy your mileage may vary. Just look at the poster and you'll get an idea.

When it comes to the other Marvel films my common complaint is how flat they can be, like they're shot to accommodate future iPad and TV viewing, but man this is the next level of visual staleness. One of the worst experiences that can be had is watching something/someone who thinks they're hilarious and loves themselves be painfully unfunny and too much of the film was that for me. 'Deadpool' revels in its R-rating with over-the-top action, toilet humor, and sex appeal -- and it's a blast to watch. It's funny and clever more often than not, but the problem is that the picture doesn't take quite enough risks with the material to truly break the mold. With the standard origin formula satisfied, here's hoping 'Deadpool 2' lets the material truly shine.

Probably the most risky of a comic book adaptation, but I'll give Fox props for trying to adapt the material as best as possible. Reynolds and the writing team carry this film mightily, as it's one of the most basic stories you'll see, and in typical fashion, it's predictable, but being predictable is okay when you're having this much fun. Wether the humor lands with you or not, it's different, and definitely distracts from the film's holes. It's good, if not without its faults.

A recent and (admittedly) unfair hatred of comic book movies instilled in me by "Guardians of the Galaxy," combined with a long-lasting and (admittedly) justified hate of Ryan Reynolds-brand malarkey, kept me from dipping my wick in the bawdy bush that is Deadpool...and now that I have finally seen it, I can wholeheartedly admit that I regret having waited so long to. I am sure this appeals to a certain type of person. However, at the risk of sounding like a pretentious windbag, that person isn't me. Adult rating be damned, it's the most tween Marvel flick yet - Darkman with dick jokes. After starting with a bang it settles into a serviceable though nonsensical origin story interlude (cancer+torture=super?) and then tapers off into every other mass infrastructure catastrophe third act since 9/11. Its like the Superman ride at Six Flags that stalls out at the half-way point, but it desperately wants to be the old Batman ride that beats you up the whole time and doesn't feel safe.

This is a mostly-funny action fest that lampoons comic book movie cliches and leaves a smoldering trail of blood and brain matter. Downside is that the humor is pretty juvenile, and there's not much in the way of story. Some of those much-maligned cliches are still being used. It's entertaining in a bold way, but I don't think it has tremendously lasting re-watch value.

I was very hesitant on a Deadpool movie, as someone who had read the comics, it's one of the hardest to adapt, except for maybe Lobo. This film manages to capture the manic, random energy of the character and weave in a backstory that for the most part, works. Reynolds is perfect, and the jokes don't always hit, but that's the beauty of it, they don't in the comic either. They are just grenade after grenade lobbed at the wall, until it collapses. Not sure on the re-watch value, but meh.

I quite enjoyed it as sort of a guilty pleasure. Even though it's a super hero movie, it's not suitable for children with sexual content, innuendo & filthy language. Crazy plot. Lots of action & offbeat humor. Some impressive stunts, but also some fighting was chopped up rather badly. The two X-Men characters were less than impressive. Morena Baccarin was absolutely delicious. Some of Ryan Reynolds raunchy humor & talking to the camera took some getting used to. Still it's well worth watching.

This is not a transformative experience watching this movie, but it's funny, I found myself LOLing with a surprising number of the jokes and so did others in the theater. Raunchier than my taste, but I think this movie is still worth seeing. There is some oddness to the humor then the traditional serious back story and I really expected Wade to break the 4th wall in one of the serious moments and tell us how much this sucks and make a joke about this needed for a tragic backstory.

This is a fun, escapist movie with a sliver of profound commentary on PTSD. Fanboy audiences will have something to relate to in a superhero who uses humor/escapism to combat his childhood traumas, health issues, & relationship woes. On top of that there are good action sequences and a snarkily charming teenage sidekick. It does drags at times and has a few too many forced jokes. Still, this is a welcome departure from comic book flicks & something that fans of the source material will enjoy.

It's not very edgy, just rather tepid in its genre transgressions. Some of it is very fun, but the thin plot and half-baked characters aren't handled so gracefully. Poor use of non-chronologic story-telling. Rather than pacing the weak origin out as best as possible, it keeps cutting back and forth from the present (ie. the fun stuff) to the past (ie. the boring stuff) the whole movie. The jokes are maybe 66% hit and 33% miss but they're so rapid fire it's not a problem. This is closest to Blade for me in budget and niche terms; it's exactly as violent and dark humoured as a Deadpool movie should be. The action is great and insane in a The Raid kind of way,Reynolds was born to play this role. 100 because I'm not afraid to give 100s (I don't see them as meaning 'perfect') and because I adore Deadpool and they did Deadpool right. Reynolds is fantastic, the action is not the best of the Marvel movies (Ant-Man is, I said it) but it's still wholly inspired. However, it's easily the funniest of the bunch, and the best. It doesn't have a great villain (that said, he was PERFORMED well, just not the greatest villain), but the fight scenes are fun, it pounds you with fourth-wall-breaking, self-referential dialogue (used as a very effective narrative device here where elsewhere, it can detract), and Reynolds just OWNS it as Deadpool, no surprise there. Deadpool was a favorite of mine in Marvel Universe when I was a kid (It was a misfit in rather sterile MU back then), so I enjoy the attention it gets. It is a difficult task to keep the action going while having all these cheeky quips, slapstick elements references etc. Actually, it is more important to keep the comedy up than the story (that's what they did here). I judge Deadpool on whether I enjoyed it, pure and simple, and I loved it. A joy to watch this. The thing that sets this apart from the other marvel movies is that the film is more mature, and by that I mean that it is rated for 16 years and older. The comedy that is present in this movie is definitely less mature, because it relies on jokes that pertain to sex and on jokes that are really silly. But I guess that's the charm of this film. DEADPOOL doesn't waste time in announcing what kind of movie it is: brash, violent, vulgar, and willing to do anything to entertain. Its wildcat spirit pulses through a first half that upends the traditional superhero origin template; even if the humor is not your style, you've got to appreciate the risks being taken here. However, DEADPOOL loses a lot of luster in its more conventional second half--its rebellious impulse can't prevent yet another damsel-in-distress climax.

This movie is so much fun and it is a breath of fresh air. The script is so witty and original. There are numerous hilarious moments and exciting and funny scenes. Ryan Reynolds hits a home run in the lead role. I highly recommend this great super hero movie.

There's only about five jokes that elicit laughter, which is pretty poor for something that throws hundreds of them at you while trying to be irreverent. The flashbacks are another issue, robbing the film of forward momentum and making one scene last half the running time. Direction is very flat as well. Passable entertainment with serviceable action, but neither refreshing or invigorating.

First, there is too much exposition - this would have been better as a Netflix/Amazon original series. Next thought is that it being rated R didn't take anything away from it, like the Wolverene series did. Some would say it didn't add anything, and that might be fair, but there was more content that served the character/story - even if it wasn't vital to the plot. This movie is at least as good as the other superhero movies out there.

Reynolds certainly is the star of this grotesque ride. His jokes about the X-Men, the audience and basically the whole industry are hilarious. The story of course is just a container for more jokes and decent action but without a ridiculous overload of heroes or global threats.

Full of pop culture references, crude humor, and over the top violence. In otherwords it's a faithful adaptation of Deadpool straight off the comic. It simultaneously doesn't take itself too seriously but in fact does take the source material of which it is based on very seriously. It manages to be a part of the marvel universe and completely breaks it and the fourth wall too. Deadpool is a film of mind bending contradictions and is truly unique as a result. Reynolds was born to be in this role.

A very solid action-comedy if you go in with low expectations - there are actual laughs, fun action and even a cute couple in the romance parts. It's not perfect - there could certainly be more jokes per second, the origin story just drags on, and the ultra-CGI Colossus with a cartoonish accent stands out like a sore thumb - but if you saw the last incarnation of Deadpool on screen this movie is like a mental bandaid.

The sort of style over substance film I can get behind, for the most part. It's self-referential and meta to the extreme which was albeit refreshing for this genre but became tedious towards the end. It was decent overall though and well worth a watch.

Fantastic and funny. The Violence and raunchiness work surprisingly well. The cast really carries this film as each of them seem to be perfect for their roles. Like seemingly every marvel film that isn't called X-Men, the villain falls flat in characterization. His jokes are funny, but his character is nothing more than his joke really...

Fun movie with some decent action, lots of jokes, and a great performance from Reynolds, clearly having a blast. The would-be subversive aspects of the movie fare poorly. Despite some nifty narrative staging tricks, it's a pretty formulaic origin story, with a forgettable climactic setpiece, and many jokes that lean too hard on its self-awareness. But if not as clever as it tries to be, it's still a fun meta-genre flick (with brief romantic & body horror interludes that work surprisingly well

The no-nonsense, sarcastically twisted anti-hero in red spandex that is deadpool pulls a ball-to-the-walls,yet oddly fun, kick and punches straight to the groin. In other word, this symphony of gore, violence, nudity, and one-time-wonder fart joke hit most of its stride, like a young modern composer tries to change the rule of the genre. The commandment of justice in latex has changed indeed. For the better or worse,Wade Wilson has arrived, with Reynold finally found his essential trademark.

The first third was pretty clever, well-written and delivered. Then it descended into mostly trite superhero shtick. But I'm in the minority so it looks like we're stuck with another franchise what with #2 already ordered. Edit: Re-watched it and kicked it up a click. Looking forward to the second coming.

This would've been the worst movie to sit through if Ryan Reynolds wasn't desperate to get everyone who ever was or will be on board. This was an okay movie but a GREAT Deadpool thing

Deadpool is a generic superhero movie given a fresh coat of red paint that happens to spell out a four-letter word. You've seen it before, it doesn't do anything new, but it has the energy, humor, and violence to make it worthwhile. It's not trying to be anything more, which is unfortunate as there are a few areas in which it could have improved and made itself into a genuinely great film. It's fun, it's funny, Ryan Reynolds is great, and it's worth seeing.

Deadpool is rude, crude, bloody and funny, even if its 'innovations' have been overstated by fanboys desperate to intellectually justify their interest in comics. It's a snark driven superhero film that ironically comments on the genre in an attempt to disguise the fact that, narratively speaking, it is playing by the book. The meta references are overkill, but the action scenes are well executed and Reynolds owns the role. It's overhyped, but it's an above average example of its type.

I've always felt the strongest aspect of Deadpool comics was moreso the drama than its comedy. Deadpool's jokes were a reflection of his depressing condition, which is why he was humorless pre-Weapon X; a point seems to not get. Outside of that, the film mixes together drama and comedy in a way that's often incongruous and while the jokes sometimes land the drama was god awful in how it didn't get that Deadpool's inner conflict was about his moral ideals rather than "saving da gurl".

It's all good fun and extremely entertaining as it gives a refreshing spin on the superhero genre. Unconventional but superbly executed with a quick and cheeky dialogue, Reynolds is a perfect fit as the vulgar anti-hero although it can turn for the more predictable as time goes by.
