Picks up where Nightwatch left off and perfectly continues this convoluted mess that I couldn't grasp the first time and slipped between my fingers entirely in this second entry.

This movie is pretty ridiculous a lot of the time. Some of the visuals really are impressive but I feel like it spends way too much time going for the "OH SWEET, MAN, YA SEE THAT!" reaction without the real chops to do so. It doesn't have an engaging plot or characters, really. Where Shoot 'Em Up got silly action right, this falls flat on its face too much. Still worth a watch but never a second.

So incomprehensible that it angered me. You don't even have to look hard for all of the plot holes of this mess of a film; even watching the previous film will not help you decipher wtf is going on. Bekmambetov clearly doesn't care for plot when he spends so much effort on action scenes where a car rides on the side of a building for absolutely no reason.

This film has a pretty major flaw - the storyline doesn't make sense. Or perhaps it does, but it's too complicated and too rapidly told, and therefore almost impossible to follow. And without a coherent story, the film doesn't really work. What's more, the "chalk of fate" has to be one of the cheesiest magical object names ever devised. I mean, seriously.

The sequel to Night Watch, Day Watch tries to be many things but succeeds at few. It's plot has many holes, the powers are inconsistent at best and it has pacing issues among other things. However like the first it does have some amazing visuals and moments that make this bizarre Russian dark fantasy worth watching.

Started off on the wrong foot w/ 2 plot twists that seemed added ad hoc to the story (i.e., the cursed one now a "great other," and the chalk of fate). these newly introduced elements left a bad taste in my mouth throughout. Still a well done film, keeping in line w the spirit of Night Watch. However, being a sequel, some of the new car smell had worn off. Some of the characters (Yegor) and the plot elements (2nd level of Gloom, categories of Others) could have been further explored.

Great effects and concepts but plot is difficult to follow and unclear. Loved the Tamerlane sequence at the start and the allusions to Samarkand!

Wow. What a letdown. It was like watching one of those Taxi flicks, but with Mr. Bean level humor. It must take some kind of genius to make such a simple story so convoluted.

"Aside from one stunning image of a sports car skidding along the face of a curved high-rise hotel, Day Watch fails to even equal its forebear's handful of flashy CG moments." - Nick Schager

I really don't get how anyone could like this movie. The editing is lazy and indulgent. The acting is dull and, when the melodrama escalates, hilariously corny. At no time does the rambling plot ever become coherent or understandable. Everything is incredibly vaguely explained and it's impossible to understand the full reasoning of everything that is explained. The ending is also shit given it's a predictable and laughable deus ex machina.

I enjoyed it a little more than the first movie I think, maybe because I had a head start on understanding what was going on this time. It's a cool, great looking action fantasy movie, but hard to get into as it doesn't make as much sense as it could.

Extremely weird, but has it's good moments. I was a bit dissapointed with this one as I would have liked some more transformations, but it keeps moving even though its a bit jumpy

Very disappointing follow-up to Night Watch. I know I go for the silly over-the-top Russian themes, but the magic chalk is just a little too much. Kind of annoying that this continuation of the cool story in Night Watch ends like this...bummer.

Otherwise extremely basic good/bad story smudged into visual and thematic rapture (sometimes visuals are the thematic). Bekmambetov needs some more substance in future for his machina to keep working.

After seeing the first and waiting in suspense for the next installment, I have never been so let down. It was still visually awesome, but I thought this was going to be a horror trilogy. The ending of this did not leave much room for a third, not to mention it was a total cop-out ending.

There are plenty of powerful images that will linger in the mind: the warrior riding straight through the walls of a fortress, the man stopping a bus with outstretched hands, the brief visits in the Twilight - though most of them are given away in the trailer already. It's a bit like The Matrix Reloaded, with the difference that Day Watch makes sense when you read the books or do some internet research.

It's got the same "I don't know what the hell I just watched, but I'm pretty sure I liked it" feel to it that Night Watch had, except this time, the budget allowed for some awesome visuals. It's basically everything Night Watch was (style, good visuals, and discombobulated plotline) just more of it.

This movie could win an award for the DUMBEST DIALOG ever. It was barely tolerable because of the weird factor and batshit crazy special effects. I thoroughly enjoyed some of it, but as a whole, it fails to satisfy. It had a lot of potential, but it is held together with stupid plot points and nutty dialog. Worthwhile for some terrific bits and pieces, but it plays like a crazy wacked-out dream.

Enjoyable sequel to Night Watch. This is certainly a sci-fi/fantasy movie, which means you need to roll with the imagination of the filmmakers.

A loud, dumb, nonsensical movie which was even less coherent than its predecessor. Most of the creative ideas seem really random and thrown together without any thought or logic. The constantly juddery, choppy editing and over-the-top direction irked me too.

In order to understand this you need to some serious research, aside from an unforgivingly confusing plot it's a interesting and action packed movie, with surprisingly good and unique special effects even though it's reletively unheard of.

Day Watch has been growing bigger since the first one (Night Watch). I've got the original version and now viewed the English one. This story gets better and better on each rounds (I anyway stick with the original Russian version). Excellent cast and uncounted details that make the film enjoyable. Lots of levels of a story, and rich and colorful layered worlds. Story needs several viewings. The international version did not differ too much from the original one and that was a good thing.

I read some of the other user reviews of the movie and I have to disagree with most of them. Yes, the story is complex and you have to pay full attention to it while watching but once you figure the main plot out, it's quite simple. I also think that Day Watch is slightly better than Night Watch and not only by the visuals.

I guess it's a little bit better than Night Watch cause the visuals are more impressive, but it's still the same mind numbing and boggling experience the first one was. It doesn't really have a story that you can relate to, and though the visuals are impressive, the actual direction of them is a little awkward and confusing. It's clear that the director has talent and cares a lot about this epic he's creating, but it's far from perfect and could use some serious revamping.

Relentless fun, though there seem to be a bunch fewer vampires in this sequel.
