I thought it was a very solid retelling of one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I don't think this is quite as good, but it unquestionably has better acting and zombie action. Snyder directed this really well and I'd love to see him do some more horror based movies. All of scares were genuine and all of the zombie lore was welcoming and felt fresh. It's also pretty well acted and paced. Pays good homage to the original and manages to be its own kind of beast. Super solid.

One of the better zombie movies. Starts off with a bang and never really lets up. Ty Burrell gives a memorable and hilarious performance and the movie was surprisingly funny. I like how they weren't too faithful to the original film but it was missing a sense of desperation that the original did have. I also wish the rest of the film lived up to the fantastic opening scene. And that title sequence was great.

A, thankfully, nihillistic take on what could have been the worst kind of remake cash-in bullshit. Thoroughly convincing, and humourosly scored scenes of societal collapse give way to a barebones action narrative - the last section sticks closely to the Aliens action blueprint. Despite what you might assume the subtext of its predessor isn't completely lost - the closing 'new frontiers' sting being the best example of the sly veign of humour that runs through the film.

Since I am such a fan of the horror genre (in particular the zombie movie) it saddens me to say this is the best. The acting could be much better even though Ving Rhames is in it. A better script could have been done. The only thing in this movie that is above my expectations is the score, and music. I'm sorry to say that everything could have been better, it's just that I am such a fan of the genre.

A great remake, it doesn’t get bogged down with just redoing stuff with the original but goes where it wants. If this kept the pacing of the opening ten minutes it would easily be superior. Running zombie apocalypse? Just end me now.

A rare case of the remake being quite superior to the original. This is partly due to the fact that they didn't attempt to be slavishly faithful to it. Beyond "zombies in a mall" and one of the characters being pregnant, there's no similarity. The new movie is perhaps not as groundbreaking today as the old movie was in its day, but it has over 25 years of genre maturation over its predecessor. The gore is better, the timing tighter, the thrills tenser, and it's a lot funnier, too.

I like how many perspectives on interpersonal relationships the film explores, focusing on that rather than the consumerism of the original makes it feel very different. Lots of great shots, really strong action sequences, and good pacing make the zombie horror more than just a momentary terror but rather a more lasting and permanent menace that makes the characters go through various shifts in perspective and expectation. It really brings out that the film is about what it means to be human.

More of an action movie than its horror predecessor, the first 10mins of this flick are flawless -- one of my favourite intros to any movie I've ever seen. The movie has a few scares in it, a number of morbid laughs, but all in all, it's just down-right cool. Weber (TV's 'Medium') is fantastic as the everyman-turned-hero, and first-time director Zack Snyder bursts onto the scene, immediately establishing himself as one to watch. In the age of remakes, this one still stands as king of the genre.

It's epic if at times a bit predictable from the narrative front. It does some cool things with the action sequences and is a likable remake that doesn't feel as dated. A solid well rounded cast helps carry the serviceable plot by giving their characters personalities. It works for the most part and keeps you very much glued to your screen and engaged.

Dawn of the Dead is one of the better zombie movies that I have seen. This is doubly impressive because this movie came out at a time when zombies were being put into everything. The horror parts of this movie are disturbing. There are great moments of humans being worse than zombies and just as many moments of humans being wonderful to each other. The acting in this movie is really what makes it stand out. Rhames, Polley, and Phifer all contribute great performances. I'd watch it again.

Honestly, I'm finding people are giving this too much credit. I usually like Zack Snyder but this is saturized in such a weird way. Not to mention most of the characters are extremely unlikable and the story is full of plotholes. It has entertainment value definitely, but I feel like people are giving this movie too much credit based on entertainment value alone. It's not too good.

Dawn of the Dead is a solid zombie film. It's certainly different from Romero's interpretation, and it mostly just uses the concept to craft its own idea. That works well enough, even if it means it lacks depth. It has too many characters as well, but there are enough that we're forced to care about. The action and horror are both done well, and I was engaged for most of the time it was playing. Oh, and watch through the credits, as this film does its credits sequence very well.

Yeah, I know that the Zombies are running, and that I should be outraged and complaining that the classic Romero-zombie that personifies mans fear of the inevitability of death, is being being watered down and made in to a raging, bloodthirsty monster of some sorts and that the satire of the original is missing...but this is damn entertaining.

I haven't seen the original, but I can say one thing: even if this misses the deeper political messages of Romero's version, the adrenaline rush watching this was the strongest I've ever felt. Gripping, cynical, and almost realistic given the premise.

If you have questions about Zombies; how they got there, what they have for breakfast, do they ever have a day off, this, like most zombie movies doesn't give answers. As long as there are humans about, zombies try to bit the f*** out of them and everything else is secondary. Whilst there seems like there are an endless number of ways you can kill them, after a while its all boring nonsense and a complete waste of time watching them do what they do, and humans do to them. Good zombie flick. It has a lot of good elements, likeable characters, good pacing, just the right amount of tension and action, mostly it's just downright entertaining. There's not much else to it, but it's enough to make you invested in the characters during the film and keep you watching until the end.

Romero's originals makes one question society, whereas Zack Snyder is all about reinforcing what he knows and feels safe. It's still racist if you get a black guy (one of the good ones!) to say it, Zack. The direction is annoyingly cartoonish, and the movie presumes the bizarre apocalypse as business as usual, it's characters mechanically going through zombie movie cliches.

Good enough that it was once touted by many as "better than the original!" (it's not), Zack Snyder's take on the Romero classic is still a nasty, grimly funny, perfectly serviceable Zombie film in the "28 Days Later" vein. It lacks the social commentary and Kubrickian long takes of the original, but it's exciting and the characters aren't mere zombie fodder.

Tho the original is probably the holy grail of zombie movies, this remake does justice .It adds some interesting new concepts and keeps the golden old ones The cast does a good job and the scripting is not half that bad (which it usually , notoriously is with horror remakes) . Also the director does a good job with keeping us on the edge of our seats. Good for multiple viewings!

I've got this problem with zombie movies. When I'm watching, all I can think is that the people in them are the kind of people that like zombie movies. A disproportionate amount of people have beards or awesome facial hair, for example. It's clearly just dudes the guy hangs out with.
