The title is a slight misnomer in that Stratton remains perversely, characteristically inscrutable, however this passionate, well-wrought overview of "modern" Australian cinema is an essential document due to Stratton's scholarly knowledge and an impeccable array of Aussie talking heads, who provide illuminating context as well as a much needed reminder to visit (or revisit) the iconic films mentioned. TV series is even better, as it strips away any pretence of being Stratton's personal story.

A superb document on the history of Australian films (though mostly focusing on the '70s, '80s, and '90s), told through a rather unexciting, but very relatable personal journey, with Stratton making up for a bit of a wooden persona with a clear love, admiration, and perhaps addiction to all films, but particularly Australian ones. The accompanying expanded TV series is also great, though if you're well versed in Australian cinema, it may feel reiterative.
