Creepiness and cultishness ooze through every pore of this thing, from the camera placement to the music to the subdued but eerie performances. The general sense of menace is all over, heavily emphasizing tone. Never a horror film but it's always tense. Ngo and Dien, specifically, are really great. Ngo is sympathetic and Dien has an ominous presence, even as he says he doesn't want to hurt her. The directing makes a claustrophobic house, while also emphasizing isolation.
