Das Wunder von Bern

There is two major subjects in German cinema: Nazis and football. This movie is about the latter one. A must movie for people who lived in Germany in 1954. Sadly, Helmut "The Boss" Rahn died just few months before this movie was released.

As a sports movie, it's as corny as all the usual Hollywood fare. The real shame is that the sports movie side of it overshadows the interesting historical and political setting, which was underexplored. There aren't many movies set in 1950s Germany, and some interesting political material in the father's return from war and the brother's rebellion, was swept aside and wasted. Still, this can be filed under "enjoyable family entertainment" even if cheese did replace the scenes I wanted to see.

Typical Hollywood hokum. Except it's German.

o jogo e todo seu contexto já emocionam por si só. enquanto o melodrama do menino é óbvio e irritante demais, só faz atrapalhar. Chamem o clint para dirigir esse material!!
