Darling

Narratively, I felt that this film was harder to follow than it needed to be; it took a long time to find its rhythm and direction. Perhaps this was because the story was taking a back seat to Johan Kling's cutting social commentary analysing the ineptitude and dependence of spoiled modern youth. Still, once the overall tone was established, the story developed nicely, becoming more of a thinking person's soap opera. Perhaps in Sweden they found Michelle Meadows's deadpan performance hilarious?

At first I wasn't sure if I was watching a badly acted drama with a soundtrack more suited in a Woody Allen film OR a dry satire about superficial young adults. Then, it evolves into melancholy story about two very different people who lose their jobs and friends and have to start over in different roles. Especially Michael Segerström makes a strong role as Bernard who tries to stay positive no matter what. I also respected the ending which would have been changed if this was an American film.
