worth a watch

Oh, come on, this is so underrated. A powerful, straightforward dramatic thriller with no time to spare, just one glossy sequence after the other -- first half is specially inspired, but the second one provides that deliciously weird water snakes scene.

This was a very poor movie and it made no sense. It honestly felt like a complete amateur production. Terrible acting, terrible writing, no interesting characters and a protagonist who never ever takes any sort of initiative. I get the feeling that Argento's been out of the game for too long and no-one dared to tell him how bad his ideas were.

Perhaps a generous rating due to rock bottom expectations. It's certainly better than Dracula, which wouldn't be hard, and the first act, including the set up, is reasonably well done, if stylistically anonymous. Pastorelli is no actress, but she is sexy and looks the part, and she is easy to root for. The problem, as always, is in the writing, and it gets sillier and less interesting as it progresses, even if there is nothing outright laughable in it. The killer is also dull.

Giving it 10 extra points due to the ending, the importance of having an animal bestie, being the best dog imaginable. Aside from that, I know Argento is in his 80s, but I did expect more from this. It's a very basic slasher with little to offer. Entertaining, okay music, some gore, but the killer is really not that interesting, definitely not memorable. Performances are inconsistent.

Has a definite B movie feeling to it and almost nothing to make it stand out from the many *many* cheap slashers being churned out every year. Still watchable
