Tragic and great. I particularly love the scene with the hat in the mud.

This very loose adaptation of Chekhov's "The Lady with the Dog" has to be the most Italian Russian film ever made. It has a low-key Felliniesque tone, not just because it stars Mastroianni, but because it has a light, outrageous comedic tone despite it's quite serious and tragic tone.
