Love Gable, even if he does spend most of the film aggressively grabbing people by the lapels. Crawford's sassy, loose-limbed performance is enjoyable, and the comedy characters go down well too, especially Rosette LaRue. The plot is very predictable but, overall, it's a silver screen treat. Bonus Fred Astaire near the end.

MGM's answer to the Warner Bros' Busby Berkeley craze that saved the musicals in the early 30s. And they pushed in two of their biggest stars to assure it was going to get noticed! Not to mention Joan's future husband Franchot Tone as the one courting her. Crawford might have been a passable flapper dancer in the 20s, but by the 30s dance had become a little more sophisticated and she wasn't totally prepared for that with her long chicken legs. But she got grand help from Fred Astaire!
