The Lithgow / Ferrel match is so strong that it turns a kinda bad movie into a light, breezy, lil, treasure. A little too provactiive.

In a rare twist, a mediocre comedy's sequel turns to the holidays in what was presumably a desperate act to renew interest and the sequel we got is, without a doubt, far better than the original. Cena gets more screen time and he shines here, and the inclusion of Lithgow and Gibson are some of the best casting choices I've seen in a long, long time. That thermostat bit just nailed it.

Even God Gibson can’t make a modern PG-13 comedy watchable

This movie is a mess. It could have been a mediocre-good movie about family dynamics and the importance of making the best of an unideal situation but nearly every aspect of that fell totally flat. Instead we get only dumb slapstick humor and no depth whatsoever. Even the feel good moments were ruined by unnecessary exaggeration.

Daddy's Home Two has got nothing to offer. So much of it feels inconsequential. And when it doesn't have that many laughs, you begin to wonder why you're spending your time watching it. The original isn't memorable, but it's funnier, so just rewatch it. Or check out The Other Guys. It's a better Wahlberg/Ferrell comedy than this. The point is that you can do better. While it's certainly better than the other parent-child Christmas comedy that's in theaters right now, it's not w

Is the backlash just because it was a sequel? Not a big fan of the first due to the lack truly memorable material, which is not the case here, with a script constantly bouncing between an adult comedy and a family Christmas flick -- Lithgow impersonates man child Ferrell with perfection, Gibson does his routine sassy Gibson persona. The friendzone talk, Liam Neeson's new PF-13 actioner screening in a theater surrounded by a blizzard and the Nativity sequence are awesome bits.

A typical Will Ferrell's movie. Maybe one or two jokes landed (thank you Mel Gibson), but it is overall filled with easy, cheesy jokes and "body injuries" comedy. Everything with the kids felt forced and unnecessary.

It's a very low bar to clear, but this is better than the first Daddy's Home movie

It’s shite. But at the precise time of watching this it fulfilled a unique craving I had to watch a shite Will Ferrell comedy. Objectively crap, if shamefully entertaining.

Its not close to the 1st movie. Its a funny christmass movie but it has so many wrong messages. Like kid kissing his stepsister. And then all girls kisses him and even a little gay dude . I mean whats the necessity of all that little crooked love story between little kids when the movie is about families ? I truly loved Mel Gibson's role and man ı wanna see more Mel Gibson at hollywood in better projects. But generaly this is a bad movie

The first had its only funny moments in the trailer and was a bad movie with a few laughs. I would never have watched this but I thought the casting choices to play the two dads was just perfect, so I gave it a shot. Glad I did because although this is definitely not good, it is funnier than the original and entertaining enough while I was on the treadmill.

Even if offensively stupid, somehow forgivable. I couldn't really recommend this to anyone else but die hard fans of Ferrell's comedy.

There seems something wrong with even dignifying this with a review, but it's more than two weeks later and I just like to have a record. There is no justification for resenting the film if you knew what you were going into (I did) and it pans out just as you'd expect. The severely miscast Gibson inspires the variety of facepalming where you can't even be fucked enough to raise your palm to your face. Next on the agenda: Bad Moms 2.

Daddy's Home 2 started slow. But the move just gets better and better right up to the triple climax. And as a Mel Gibson fan it was awesome to see him bad ass yet again in such a comical role!

I wasn't expecting this film to be clever or good. I also wasn't expecting to loathe Xmas by the end of it. At least one of my expectations was surpassed. There are a few laughs, but they're floating in a sea of repetitive gags, forced "heartfelt moments", and unnecessary drama. The rendition of Do They Know It's Christmas? in the final act is a testament to the quality of the movie; badly thought out, underwhelming and unentertaining.

Mel Gibson is brought in to play Kurt Mayron, Dusty's never present dad and he is written to try and drive a wedge in between Brad and Dusty. Just lazy writing honestly.

Daddy's Home 2 is nothing spectacular but I did have fun with it. I might be one of the few who was happy to see Mel Gibson return to the big screen. Yes, the comedy is your basic over the top shenanigans with Wahlberg and Ferrell but I can't lie when I say that it really had me laughing hard in multiple instances. If you're a fan of these types of films you should enjoy. Just keep your expectations low and it might work for you. 3 STARS

It's essentially the same film, trading on cheap humour and obvious sentiment, but Gibson and Lithgow really make a difference as their characters allow the screenwriters to capitalize more thoroughly on the masculine anxieties they exploit somewhat humourously. Gibson steals the show with ease playing Wahlberg's acerbic father, and his antiquated macho shtick provides most of the laughs. On the downside, Cardellini is once again sidelined, and the addition of Cena really is pointless.

Better than the first film. Lithgow is underused, but Gibson actually kills it. Still really marginalizes the women (especially Wahlberg's wife). A scene where we're excited to learn who Ferrell's mother's new husband is, but she is barely given a face is indicative of the film.

Daddy's Home 2 is an odd film in that it's got plenty of PG-13 content paired with some genuinely sweet messages about father-son relationships. Between put-downs, profanity and off-color gags, this movie still manages to say something about how important dads are in the lives of their children--especially their sons.
