One example how movies goes bad when one and same guy i director, writer and lead actor. I kind of like Thornton. But constant arguing and clueless plot makes my head in

Even with a great cast, this is disappointing and tiresome. I normally like Laura Dern, but her character was ridiculous. Most of the characters are flat, self absorbed, stupid and boring. There is almost no take away from this movie. I am not very surprised that Billy Bob Thornton has created a story about immature social retards and drunkards.

A good cast and a very nice soundtrack can't overcome the main problems with this film. Screaming arguments aren't as funny or as interesting as the filmmakers seem to think. More broadly, the turnaround in the last half of the film doesn't ring true for the characters, and feels like yet another instance of Hollywood's efforts to rewrite the South itself into something glossier and more congruent with Hollywood ideals than it really is.
