Then you are either a pig or having daddy issues? Hmm, we should categorize human genders based on this...

This is a real slow burn of a dialogue based drama film. It came across a bit like a play, with it all being set in the taxi cab and there only being the 2 characters, played by Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn. Its somewhat insightful I suppose, in terms of female relationships and some pit falls. It does feature some strong sexual references, mainly in the texts that the lady receives (I'm not sure her name is ever revealed?).

When our world is so obsessed with social media, sometimes intimate connection is more important than ever. A movie that we all need.

I've seen better movies set almost entirely inside cars, and I've seen better movies with only two characters, but Daddio is both and manages to be compelling and the leads have chemistry. On the downside, it's a little crude in its outlook on life (men are pigs, women have daddy issues) and a tad sentimental. I get why it was shot on a soundstage rather than a real cab, but the total silence surrounding Dakota Johnson's every little sniffle also bothered me a lot in terms of set authenticity.

I was eagerly awaiting the first feature film of Christy Hall, one of the creators of I Am Not Okay with This, which I loved very much and was very sad to see cancelled. And Daddio did not disappoint. A nice, dramatic movie that takes place entirely in a taxi. It is frank, sincere and full of dialogues that touch many parts of life.

Chamber pieces like this need great performances and well-written dialogue. Johnson and Penn have a fantastic rapport as two characters who are in different situations, have different personalities, but gel during a cab ride. The script is smart, organic, even, I imagine, a little controversial to some people (specifically with some stuff Penn says). Like their rapport, Daddio slowly built my investment in it. Payoff wasn't bombastic, but it was real, like the rest of the film.

For a movie that takes place almost entirely inside a cab, it is remarkably good. The dialog was smart and entertaining. Well worth watching. Much better than I expected. Both Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn were marvelous in this.

Was looking forward to this since I heard about it several months ago. I tend to gravitate towards dialogue heavy one setting dramas so this fit the bill quite well. Penn and Johnson are great. Some of the choices of the characters were a bit strange in parts, but on the whole it was a rewarding watch. 6.6
