What’s most initially disarming in the opening moments is realizing it’s a straight-up, old school, mid-prestige musical, these days. As the leads sing the theme, background characters get caught aloft by their wistfulness and waltz skyward. You’re either with the magical realism or you’re not. Not everything here works to full satisfaction (I can hear Berninger’s cadence over some of the vocal performances), but Peter absolutely owns every detail of his performance and elevates others as well.

This movie really worked for me! Dinklage and Bennett are perfect for the lead roles, I loved the soundtrack by The National, and both the comedy as well as the moments of exquisite heartbreak really stuck the landing.

Emotional and soulful adaptation is largely successful, if missing the presumed power of the “live” version – there are moments here where Wright can’t quite find the happy medium between some fussy staging and really cutting loose with the emotional performances; Dinklage is, of course, the star, but Bennett and Harrison are very effective as well, with the best sequences cleverly showing the three-way courting process.

Yakışıklı olmasaydı onu sever miydin? Hayır. Ben böyle aşkın ıztırabı filmi. Karşılıksız aşk filmi. Cyrano 1 asker, aynı zamanda entellektüel ve şair ruhlu 1 aşık. Sevdiği kız, başka 1 askere, aşık olduğunu itiraf eder. Askeri korumasını ister. Müzikal tarzda ilerleyen film, Peter Dinklage'in harika oyunculuğu ile izletiyor. Sıkılmadan izledim. Shekaspeare göndermeleri de hoş. Filmin sonunda, aşk itirafında ölüm. Bu son mektubu yazarken ben saadetler diliyorum.

Pretty run-of-the-mill stuff, songs are a bit cringey.

Dinklage delivers it, the songs are nice -- of course, some The National dudes did them -- but evidently the second half is way better than the boring first one. Great finale.

I’m sorry but the male cast can’t sing. Dinklage kills it in the dramedy front but his inability to sing isn’t helped even by the directioral last ditch effort to make him speaksing the lyrics. He needed to be dubbed.

This isn't the most engrossing of period drama/musical films but it does feature some nice settings and costumes. The songs are ok - not entirely catchy but certainly not awful. Its somewhat atmospheric in parts but I wasn't particularly compelled by it. It's a nice enough watch to have on in the background sort of a thing - not a bad film but by no means great. I think if your a fan of period/costume dramas and you don't mind musicals, then yes, it's worth seeing but otherwise? not so much.

In general it's visually very pretty, great photography with some cool scenes (the direction has some good moments); the first 20 minutes are very promising, but it quickly becomes corny with an excessive tone (in general). The songs sound so american that they invariably don't seem to fit the narrative.

Pleasantly theatrical in its quickfire witticisms, unspecific period setting and design, and unassuming, almost organic choreography. Pleasantly subversive in the tragic self-awareness of its final line. But the music is its highlight, fitting into a niche benefiting from both the grandeur of orchestra and the homely intimacy of The National’s pop; every song sticks in the head until the next. Unique and enjoyable.

Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up in the air and acknowledge: "this just wasn't made for me." The scenery and set design was well-executed, Dinklage always pulls through, and the single-take action sequence was thrilling (pretty sure it was a composite, but the effect still worked). That's about all I can say without feeling like I'm punching below the belt. Makes me wish Criticker had an "NA" scoring option.

Cyrano is oddly frustrating. Foppish aristocrats playing out a tragedy of love don't garner much sympathy, and the focus on dance numbers over situational context don't help enamour this period drama to me. Dinklage carries the film with his performance, and the rest of the cast is good but the singing is fits a music video more than a musical. The music is modern & good, but not a single song echoed in my head after the credits rolled. The costumes & set-dressing are the film's defining aspect.

Above all, Cyrano is a testament to the durability and malleability of this material. Make it a musical. Make it a comedy. Make it a swashbuckler. Cyrano de Bergerac is hard to screw up.
