Calling this a hidden gem etc is just vieng polite to a movie that is pretty boring for chunks of it until the director in charge of making it a slasher wrestles it out of the other guys hands who is infatuated with Punished Snake John Vernon

One of those 80's slashers that has wasted potential written all over it, something that's largely not its own fault but instead that of the troubled production. The cast is solid here, particularly Lynne Griffin (who's excellent in every second she's got), & there's an intriguing mystery plot tying it all together that would make for a great novel. Sadly, the execution of that plot isn't great, with one-note characters whose personalities fluctuate & a clumsy finale that hits the wrong note.

Certainly interesting, Curtains has a production history that shows its troubles on screen. The result, however, happens to land somewhere around a Giallo-like tone. John Vernon has never been sleezier.

Calling this Canadian slasher a hidden gem would be pushing it, but it's definitely worth a watch if you've already seen all the better known entries in the genre. It's not particularly scary or gory, the story is quite confusing and many things don't make sense. It doesn't come as a surprise that this was apparently a very troubled production and the original vision won't probably ever surface. But, it has a nice atmosphere, snow covered setting and some good scenes like the ice-skating o

Apparently they had two directors shooting this film, and it shows. A lot of weird tonal shifts. But, it is still a surprisingly fresh feeling slasher (see: the ice skating scene).

A hidden gem, this Canadian flick provides a mix of slasher, soap opera and whodunnit. Seven actresses audition for a movie at the directors mansion, and start getting killed off one by one by a mysterious masked figure.

A disjointed, artful mess that's far more ambitious than most slashers, filled with creepy dolls, killers in hag masks, a stunning death sequence on ice and crazy-ass Samantha Eggar camping it up as always. However, all the alleged drama behind the making of the film (constant rewrites, reshoots, directors leaving halfway through production etc.) is sadly clearly evident on screen, weird pacing and confusing plotting ends up ruining all the potential the film could have had.

This relatively obscure horror item could fit in just as snuggly in the slasher subgenre as the giallo equivalent. But personally I'll file it under "Who gives a shit, it's rubbish". The film has a few interesting stylistic flourishes but the director seems to be completely unaware of such concepts as suspense and tension. His use of red herrings, as well, makes for some of the most bizarre, cinemating gutterballs I've ever had the misfortune to witness. This one deserves the obscurity.

Worth watching for the ice skating scene. On the downside, there is a really inappropriate scene where we witness a rape and are expected to collectively shake our heads and smile when it's revealed to be a role play. You can't really do that...

Honestly, I finally watched this because it's been getting a lot of hype lately but I found it a bit underwhelming.

O último pesadelo estreava há 40 anos na Noruega. Method acting goes wild. Boo hoo. Todo mundo sabe que o diretor misógino deveria ser o assassino, mas ego de homem brilha demais pra perceber isso. Box Versátil Slashers Volume 5.
