Remember that scientist that was trying to perfect a matter transportation machine but got fused with a fly when one of the little critters got into the transporter with him? Well, this story is about three of his descendents (a son, Henri Delambre, played by Brian Donlevy and two grandsons). Seems the son wants to continue and perfect the machine while his two sons want to get out of the scientist business and live "normal" lives.(imdb)

You don’t even get a sniff of an actual fly in this. But really how many times could they have the same family produce a scientist go into a teleport pod with a fly .. at least twice. The film opens with a woman running in slow-mo in her undies and that has as much to do with the fly as this.

Smartly avoids repeating itself & opens w/ great & unexpected imagery (window glass flying at the viewer & a half-naked woman fleeing). I was hooked as I wondered where it was going, but 30 minutes in, it was becoming clear & not good. They keep deformed human experiments around for no reason & keep using intercontinental transporter tubes as garbage chutes & escape cars. The woman's backstory also proves irrelevant. & why can't these scientists just take the win once they can transport objects?

When a movie kicks off with a woman in her underwear running in slow motion through a gothic garden, and it features Burt "Cato" Kwouk in the Igor role, you can't really go wrong. But the strange thing is, it's not bad. It's actually a proper sequel to the first two movies, exploring the ideas and fallout rather than just duplicate the monster (there's no half-man-half-fly in it), and taking them to a very dark place indeed. Plus, putting a nice spin on the classic "Help me" line.

Pretty bad but I made it all the way through.

While this gets a lot of points for being genuinely more interesting than the first sequel & somehow managing to be enjoyable without Vincent Price, it also loses points for having two Asian characters (one played by a Welsh white woman) named- no, seriously- Tai & Wan. Really, people? Anyway, for what it's worth the performances here are solid & the attempt at doing something different is very appreciated. It's not exactly a must-see, but for completionists it isn't torturous to sit through.

Better than you'd think, but still not good enough.

This was kind of an improvement over the other two Fly movies. Even though you see the effects of the fly, the experiment results are more gruesome.
