Cry, the Beloved Country

Remarkable film for the time it was made. British production, shot in Apartheid South-Africa, smuggling in American actor Sidney Poitier to shoot a very understanding and respectful portrayal of life down there from a native point-of-view. The hardship for the black, the lost generation, and what racial tension that was brewing. But they approach it all from a kind-heatedness religious perspective, almost like a hopeless prayer for freedom and peace in strangled impoverished situation.
