Many Jackie Chan movies are tonally inconsistent, with brief periods of brilliance popping up amidst all the absurdity. You stop laughing and marvel for a bit, and then it's gone. This one is far less easy to pin down; it constantly oscillates between the usual absurdity and the kind of heady, cold-neon urban visions you'd expect from the best of the American 80s crime movies. I mean, half the time it's downright gorgeous, and the 7-11 section is pure genius in terms of direction. Who knew?

Tries to be tonally darker and more grounded than Chan's usual work and in some respects it succeeds. But for all his many talents, Chan isn't a serious dramatic actor and can't pull it off. Still, a decent story and some OK fights make it watchable enough.

Serious Chan movie, but not too bad. I was hoping for more martial arts action, especially with Ken Lo, but there were some good and painful-looking stunts. The finale explosions were bad-ass.

Serious Jackie Chan takes on a kidnapping. "Police Story on Crack." I always like comedic JC more. This was lacking in comedy and stunts. He's just not a great dramatic actor in any language, though he keeps trying. Peppered with a lot of pro-police scenes including an extended monologue about the rule of law. Fav scene: mountain car chase reminiscent of PS1 but with more serious results.

Hong Kong action mayhem, my favourite film genre at the moment. It caught my attention because of the excellent dynamic cinematography. Beautiful neon and fire-drenched sets. Good use of space during the fights. The camera keeps moving along swiftly, staying on target, very acrobatic, as if carried by Jackie himself.

Jackie Chan's most serious movie. Also his most exciting. Beware English-dubbed prints, at least one of which renders all this quite silly

A fair Jackie Chan movie that's carried by the cinematography.

A darker realistic crime movie which is among Jackie's better movies. For starters it's well written and directed. Plus Jackie pulls of playing a serious role, he's convincing as the traumatized honest cop. But the real crux is that Jackie still is vulnerable in this movie, which allows him to play his usual underdog role, which he does best, only this time it's a serious instead of a comedic take on it. Because of that this is actually suspenseful beside just exciting.

Interesting twist on the "Hong Kong cop" genre, and it's different to see Jackie Chan fight less and try to be more serious. It has its flaws but it's entertaining
