There’s an amazing cut of this film out there where they use IV’s montage music and totally remove the deaf fiancée character who is garbage and Creed comes out to Living in America. There is no greater POP in ~cinema~ than when the Rocky theme plays when someone starts getting the absolute shit knocked out of them. Fantasy sequel is Drago having a rematch with Creed’s infant daughter and just being destroyed by the PR nightmare it creates.

Fails at being Rocky II. Fails at being Rocky IV. Fails at establishing a proper antagonist. If you cut out 80 minutes of Adonis being a whiny little bitch and flip the colorgrades for the final training montages, you'd probably have a pretty good film about the Dragos and their struggle. Which would be infinitely more interesting than a drama so lame they had to chuck a deaf baby in to save the day.

I found this to be a very solid sequel. Caple Jr. is no Ryan Coogler, but he is a surprisingly talented director and manages to take this series in a fairly new direction effectively. I like that this showed some story from both fighters and not just the title character, and I while it is a fairly predictable movie, it's told well enough that it stands on its own and be entertaining. The life outside of the ring is honest and just as raw as the life inside of the ring as well. Great work!

My biggest gripe with this movie and I blame the writers for it is that you can predict everything that's going to happen 10 minutes into the film But other then that I'm happy with it Michael B. Jordan just gives so much realness to every part he plays

Undeniably obeys sports movie clichès and structure more slavishly than its predecessor (in fact you could easily argue the film is just Rocky II, III and IV mashed into one whole). But it makes up for that by just generally being very likable and exciting and well-made and tying the entire 42-year Rocky mythology together in satisfying ways. The ending in particular was nice and warm enough that this could be a comfortable stopping place for the saga.

First of all.....worst soundtrack ever!! Trap music is trash! Should have used "No Easy Way Out" during the desert training montage. Talk about dropping the ball. Tessa Thompson singing Creed's entrance music was easily one of the cringiest moments in film history. I had to look away from the screen in embarrassment. Ivan Drago keeps whining about how his wife left him, only to run into Brigitte Nielsen later on. A haggard, dried up prune has a better complexion. Consider that bullet dodged!

If the first Creed was Rocky I & II than this one was definitely Rocky III & IV. The drama this time around doesn't work as well and Adonis wasn't as interesting either, in fact far more interesting was the Viktor & Ivan story line. Hopefully the next movie will be about them and not Creed III.

Lacks the visceral emotional punch of CREED, largely thanks to Stallone's sidelining along with the retcon of his terminal illness; Jordan and Thompson's likable performances help sustain the film as it hits well-worn story beats of yore (incorporating elements of ROCKYs II & III). Revs up for an exceptional boxing climax, given added and unexpected weight by Lundgren's stoic performance - might have been even better if the relationship between the Dragos had been given more consideration.

I dug Creed II more than its predecessor, if for no other reason than, my inner franchise fanboy bought into the premise of Apollo's son vs. Drago's son hook, line, and sinker. And even though this iteration of the Drago feud lacks the cultural context of the original, integrating the Dragos' fallout from the Rocky fight and the way it represents Russian boxing is an intriguing substitute - something this franchise is adept at. Minor pacing issues aside, I was captivated by this from frame one.

Creed II has the problem of everything outside of the boxing being far more interesting than the boxing itself. Coupled with the largely by-the-numbers script and less sure-handed direction than Ryan Coogler you get a sequel which rests more on characters than anything else. Fortunately, the characters set up in the previous film are still solid and this film even manages to remake Ivan Drago from being a caricature into a real character, no small feat. This adds to a decent but uneven film.

Feels too connected to Rocky IV in a way that resembles how Creed I was to the first Rocky. That said, this should've been a disaster, but it's not. Cast is always great, but the script should've more stuff about the Drago family. It works despite the catalogue of cliches -- like training hard in the desert -- and some macho pride -- D must fight for himself and those he loves, not for vengeance of his father; build legacy with or without the championship belt. Fight material looks pretty good.

Not as good as Creed, but perfectly enjoyable, if wholly predictable. You know exactly how it's going to play out, but it's still fairly compelling. A lot of that is Jordan's performance; he's really good. I didn't think Stallone was as good or interesting as he was in the first one, but still a nice presence. They managed to link it to Rocky IV in a really grounded way, which is impressive, considering how ridiculous that movie was. Worth watching if you're a fan of the series.

This formula is still killer as long as the performances and production are tight and they are here. Caple Jr. works effectively with Coogler's original tone. Final fight was a little underwhelming though but the montages and excellent hip hop updating of the soundtrack is still electric. Amazing that you can make a heartfelt sequel using the characters from the camp masterpiece Rocky IV. I'd love to see this new class try and make a movie like Rocky IV though, how would that even look?

While it does not quite match the level of intensity of the first it fairs well thanks to great performances from Jordan, Stallone, Thompson, Lundgren and Munteanu. The boxing scenes are intense and Creeds personal life also unfolds around that but it was all by the books it seemed. While it played heart and courage close to its chest for most of the film it just never reached the moment of absolute triumph like past installments. Still a a treat for long time fans because of the legacy.

Don't know where it ranks in the franchise but I have no objectivity towards Rocky movies or even a movie that doesn't necessarily star him but still includes him. Rocky follows a formula that I love but they generally throw in little twists and turns. Great performances, amazing musical cues, emotion, fights are a short film in themselves, some laughs, tension between the Dragos and Creed/Rocky. Makes you care about the Dragos because this franchise has made so many memorable characters.

I would describe Creed II as competent, but nothing more. Coogler doesn't direct this one and the lack of style shows. All the right buttons are pushed for a sports drama, but it isn't anything we haven't seen before - the training montage, the walkout, etc. B Jordan and Stallone do a good job with what they can, but the material just feels a little too melodramatic, whereas the first film felt like a fresh and modern take on the franchise. This one just feels like a by-the-numbers sequel.

With the Rocky vs Drago legacy to live up to, it's no surprise Creed II (2018) didn't quite reach full potential, but it was a solid attempt and I liked it. Was best when implementing music for montages and such. That was something the Rocky films were legendary at too. Wish they'd done more to bring emotion to the actual Creed Jr. vs Drago Jr. feud instead of just inviting the two oldies to bring the nostalgia of how powerful Rocky IV (1985) was.

I can't say I like this film very much. The pace is really sluggish and when this is coupled with a really predictable plot I really couldn't work up much interest in what was happening. I don't think it's the actors fault. Everyone is doing a fine job (with one possible exception) and it's nice seeing Lundgren getting work and all that jazz. I just don't care about a bland rehash of a "Rocky" film I don't really care for in the first place.

Creed 2 follows the relatively same formula and structure of its predecessor, and definitely borrows from earlier entries in the franchise. Despite this, the movie still successfully keeps the story engaging, and investing into the antagonist this time around is really where it pays off. Whereas, the dramatic highlights of the film tend to cause some pacing issues, it is equally made up with its sheer execution, once again, and that might be what’s most impressive. Well done.

Didn't like that: - Bianca has become such a passive bystander instead of driving the plot more - Creed was acting so inexplicably and unrelatably childish in the first half - a lot of plot lines were hinted at but never followed or built upon - we were supposed to feel bad for Creed for almost dying from his own (unmotivated) idiocy - Rocky apologized for trying to protect Creed - visual language and music were even more generic than in the first one. That is all I remember. :(

The whole concept represents much of what is wrong with contemporary Hollywood: it reeks of lame fan fiction and exploits nostalgia for the sake of another tired iteration. Adonis remains a dull character, and having Sly wear his character's trademark fedora in almost every scene verges on parody. The macho sentiment is grating, and Dolph's revenge motive is too cartoonishly portrayed to take seriously. Caple Jnr's handling of the fight sequences is also inferior to both Sly's and Coogler's.

Having no interest in establishing Creed as a humble underdog the first time (which would've made him far more likable) this has to give him his first defeat & come up with a way to soften him as well so maybe we can care. But this setup just insures this installment is more predictable than ever. They even implausibly go to Russia (Drago's team abruptly makes demands). Except for making his opponent as sympathetic as Creed himself we've seen all this done before w/ a more likable hero

This was an essential film in the franchise. It needed to happen. It could have been executed better, but it makes very clear that Rocky is passing the torch. The stakes of the conflict are never convincing, perhaps because Creed's personal and professional life are never well-balanced in this movie. All the same, it's a well-scripted, heart-wrenching film that acts, not only as a great way to carry the franchise to the next generation, but to pay tribute to the ones who started it.

The first half feels very fast-paced and while it copies some of the same beats of Rocky 2 and 3 it doesn't develop them enough on their own. That being said, the rest of the movie, and the overall experience, is fantastic. There's still so much weight and gravitas for the story and characters, including the Dragos who get a believable and sympathetic storyline. Creed 2 like it’s predocessor serves as a fitting extension to the Rocky saga but also as a worthy continuation of the Creed story. Michael B. Jordan & Tessa Thompson have made these films their own but this film arguably belongs to the return of Dolph Lundgren who pleasingly gets given a well fleshed out and redeeming character arc. It is better than Creed, with more at stake for the fights, though unfortunately the fights themselves, though well produced, seem far too one-sided on either side much of the time, without much physical back and forth between opponents. Instead, Creed 2 gets the drama right, with his relationship with his squeeze and daughter bringing more to this than anything else. Rocky's okay, and he has some good ol' fatherly advice, though he is the one aspect I preferred in the 2015 original.
