if you reduced the output of films and TV series about posh people in England by 75% the world would be no worse off for it

Without pathetic pricks like Orlando Bloom or Sam Riley around her, Eva Green really shines. No cheap tricks here - the madness is real and one particular look at the end made me literally freeze. Great performances by the young actresses, especially by María Valverde. And, of course, Ridley brought John Mathiesson in the game.

A complex and subtle narrative. Green is fantastic as the depressed and oft delusional Miss G molding "her girls" into visions of her imagined self. Juno Temple and Maria Valverde also offer fine turns. In short, w worthy watch.

One of those set in olden times, coming of age movies, about girls. Actually a pretty big genre. This one is interesting though.

It is enthralling to watch Miss G (Eva Green) as she becomes disconnected from her comfortable delusions and usual routines. Her life stories are exposed as being details from a book. She eventually loses her inhibitions when confronted by a beautiful headstrong young girl whose actual life personifies the made up life she has constructed about herself. Her lust for the girl's life is transposed into a romantic obsession, which she acts upon, leading to more tragic choices and consequences.

Desire, obession, inspiration and desperation; this girlie story unfolds around an engaging Eva.G, but neither her character or the story keep up with a beautiful cinematography all the way through.

Cracks is a pretty good film that overcomes an overlong running time and slightly lackluster story. Given to a less talented first-time director, the detail would have been missing and we would have had to suffer through a story that's not particularly unique or interesting. There's a lot to take from this movie, and I have to recommend it for that, and also because you'll probably want to see it more than once to catch points that you missed the first time around. I know I want to.

While thematically linked to derivative crap like "Mona Lisa Smile" and "St. Trinians", "Cracks" contrasts these by actually fleshing out nuanced, non-vapid girls. There's an uncomfortable feel to the entire thing not entirely unlike Weir's "Picnic at Hanging Rock", and a series of ambigious hints allows the film to keep its creeping uncertainty throughout the final dénouement. A cop out, you say? I say it fits perfectly with the characters. Green is good, Juno Temple is great.

For at least half the movie I asked myself what the story was all about, then I started coming up with my own answers as I'm still not sure what the point is. Nevertheless, that doesn't bother me a darn bit because there are a few things so worthy of my time that cohesion gets put aside. I don't recall having seen so many good young actresses united in a same piece as it's the case here, and I especially enjoy their untainted emotions, whatever they are. Superb photography!

Eva Green is wonderful. She's given a rare opportunity to shine here. There are no men in this movie, and it tries to capture a few insights about early womanhood. Or at least I think it does. What the hell do I know about it. My point is that it's a good movie, and one's female companions may enjoy it even more than I did.

"The film unfolds primarily as a case study of both a vaguely fascistic individual and a group subject to that individual's magnetism." - Andrew Schenker

I found the characters of this movie really interesting, and so were the relations between them, specially of course the three protagonist (and their actresses). The story is immersive and the doubts you have about the lives, with the suggestions the movie gives about their past lives, always subtle, a nice adding to think about the movie and find different things in possible future reviews.

Eva Green is very good in this. Her character is, in a higher level, what we all are. We say many great things to cover our truth.

Starts off as a conventional boarding school drama, but takes a steep turn in the third act as new light is shed upon the character played by the marvellous Eva Green.

I'm not sure what you are meant to take away from this film, but it certainly makes you think. It could easily have become bland, but instead remains very gripping throughout. Subtleties that are often lost in film-making are captured very well here, without feeling too drawn-out or boring. Eva Green's character is very intriguing, and her acting really brings it to life.

From start it looked like some St.Trinians clone but fortunately something went wrong. Characters are fine developed but acting is mediocre. E. Green is not that bad as she's in other films. Still has too much 'childish' factor to be taken seriously.

Pretty intriguing. It was just predictable enough to lull you into complacency and then twist things up a bit at the end.

Top badass moment? The girls throwing down their red ribbons; Gavrilo Princip could learn a thing or two about rebellion from these kids. In the 90's I lived/worked for six months in a portacabin, in the grounds of a large, private boarding school in a very rural part of England. It had about three students, who I never saw. Weird. Severely lacking in jolly hockey sticks but curiously focusing on diving, this is a slow, atmospheric, style over substance film. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
