Crack-Up

Not one of my favorite Peter Lorre performances. Kinda strange considering he plays a mentally retarded person with a trumpet, except it's just a front as he's really a spy. That should guarantee something great. Nut neither the weirdo personality nor the story fulfill it's promise. The spy thing becomes a little too complicated and then they end up in the middle of nowhere with no purpose. But it's still Lorre being mad and a claustrophobic atmosphere so it has some to arouse their curiosity.

The word Crack-up has many meanings unfortunately this movie uses the term in the most mild sense. Peter Lorre does well with his duel role even if he doesn't get much screen time. All of the other actors are adequate at best. There are double and triple crosses and a plane crash and through it all the main characters stay amicable to each other. As this film is just over an hour long it's not a complete waste of time and should be a nice one time watch for anyone not just Peter Lorre fan.
