You've gone and committed some major crime. You get locked up. Dark cell. Lights on. In front of you a pool of sewage. Way above you a springboard. On it you see John Goodman. He gets undressed. Totally undressed. He goes on the springboard. He jumps. He lands in the pool. The first wave hits you, and you KNOW that you should have closed your mouth, but you just couldn't pick your jaw up from the floor. Yes, really. That bad.

Hilarious. A movie that sits on the fence so hard it gets splinters right up its ass. I could tell what they were going for: a romantic comedy for the women, and "T&A" for the men. Instead, it's a bland, derivative love story with a PG-13 rating (meaning no boobs, of course). They tried to be everything and ended up making nothing. Well fuck you, movie. You deserved it.

The pieces seem to be in place for a bit of gleefully tacky fun, but unfortunately this ungainly mix of sleaze and sincerity either needed to be a lot better or a lot "worse" to be successful - this is an admittedly watchable (and likable) enough effort which keeps threatening to spark into something fun with the silly bar scenes, before we are dragged back to simpering Perabo's mooning over Garcia. Props to overweight Goodman serving as a Chekov's Gun, though not quite in the way you expect.

Much like Coyote Ugly the bar franchise, COYOTE UGLY the film is largely an excuse for men of all ages (acting upon any combination of loneliness, horniness, and drunkenness) to ogle young, fetching women. The thin veneer of plot about an aspiring singer's attempt to overcome stage fright--stage fright!!--cannot conceal the film's bone-deep creepiness.

Beyond horrible. I cannot understand why any sane adult would watch this, let alone think it's good. Paul Verhoeven's modern gem, Showgirls, is much more entertaining and it gives more than Coyote Ugly's one and half hours of cocktease.

hahahahaha If you grow up in a trailer surrounded by right wing ideas of trad femininity, this movie feels like a glorious sex positive revolution during your teenage awakening, and I think that’s why Kid Rock has fans…but if you do make it into college and travel a little, don’t try to rewatch it it.

Put me off the LeAnn Rimes track, which up until I discovered it's original context, was a total banger. Obvious product placement. Wooden leads. John Goodman seems to get slightly more screentime than Tyra Banks. A laundry list of things I really don't want to see in a movie. I'd never drink in that bar, it looks shite.

Coyote Ugly should be getting a horrible review. The plot is traditional and been done before, the script is pretty bad (even with Kevin Smith working on it), and it's pretty much soft-core porn. Then again, the girls are hot and the film is actually enjoyable by the final few minues. So basically, I enjoyed every minute of this film, every single minute.
