Dunno how you could describe Meg Ryan as "butch", but on the whole this is a very nicely done military drama

Suprisingly risky film for Ryan and Washington to make. A very intelligent drama, well acted and well scripted.

A military procedural of which I remember many of the individual moments, but not the film as a whole. However, do I recall those moments as properly dramatic and engaging (but not on the level of 'A Few Good Men' of which 'Courage Under Fire' is surely a descendent).

Denzel is solid as always, the rashomon-esque structure does make the mundane plot more intriguing. But Meg Ryan is miscast, the drama and action flat and Zwick's directing undistinguished.

Average 90's military intrigue movie. I don't really recommend it, but I guess it was alright.

A Rashomon-style film that proceeded largely on the strength of its cast.

This is a good drama movie. It is just a few steps away from being a great film. The acting is very good, there are several good dramatic performances. The script has good moments but no real spectacular ones. Overall I would recommend this drama.

Gripping military thriller, but ultimately a disgusting "SUPPORT ARE TROOP" story about the absolute infallibility of Marines, who are - never forget - paid killers employed by the US.

A fairly gripping military mystery thriller with a plot that I've actually never seen before. Meg Ryan comes off a bit forced and Matt Damon is freakishly thin, but Denzel is powerful and reminds us why he's a movie star.

Movie could have used a little more action, but Zwick is a solid director and Washington and Ryan are good. A freaky skinny Matt Damon does well also.

It's a frustrating film to review due to having both incredibly positive and negative elements. On the positive side are the performances, everyone involved is dynamite from the leads to the supporting cast, and the excellent use of the Rashomon style of storytelling. On the downside the film is based around something that would get someone a court martial: firing from a Red Cross vehicle and it is overly melodramatic at points. Really it's a war film for the average Joe, not a war buff.

One of a slew of Gulf War movies "with a conscious" made by a series of writers and directors trying very hard to convince the US that the Gulf is this generations Vietnam.

This is an OK film. Meg Ryan performance was not impressive. The only thing worth noting is Matt Damon's method action where he starved himself to in order to potrait a drug addict.

I saw this because a friend of mine was into Matt Damon. On that front, it was a disappointment. Otherwise, I don't remember much. I couldn't buy Meg Ryan as a solider.

Having read the book, the plot was spoiled for me, but Washington gave a solid performance and Matt Damon first came onto my radar here. Meg Ryan somewhat miscast.

Denzel Washington, the leading men of all leading men, brings the fireworks in Edward Zwick's immensely entertaining and powerful war drama. Look out for great performances from Meg Ryan, Lou Diamond Philips and a young nearly-annorexic Matt Damon.
