If I was ranking this entirely based on whether or not it took place on an island, it would score significantly higher. But I'm ranking it as a movie.

There's obviously a market for comedies about thirtysomethings admitting to themselves that they're old and boring. I just don't see why the movies have to be, too.

While watching this movie my date and I wondered if something like this actually existed. That allowed us about ten minutes to divert our attention from this train wreck. Vaughn had his moments, with the alarm system, the toilet and the shark scene, but for each of his scenes there was a horrible Faizon Love scene to cancel it out. Nice showing by a calmer Ken Jeong. The ending was stupid, yet easily telegraphed. Just don't expect much and you should be ok watching this.

You gotta love comedies that just aren't funny...at all. The film was exhausting at nearly 2 hours. It would have been exhausting long before that. And some really noticeably bad and obtrusive editing, too. I wanted to scream: "Stop cutting!" so many times. I mean this is a comedy for godssake. What a waste.

There are very few laughs in this comedy and considering the seemingly great cast this is a bit of a surprise. But it's not funny...actually, it's just downright creepy. I don't recommend this.

Same old same old. I managed to laugh a few times, but it was too few times for me to actually say this movie was "good." This movie could have been a lot better but they go for uninspired laughs and a total cop out of an ending. Hollywood plays it safe again.

I like the way these people work together in movies but this one fell a little flat. Mostly unfunny and criminally tame with the actors involved. Please let me see the Vaughn and Favreau of the "Swinger's" day I am friggan beggin here.

The movie could have been really been done better. They take the issue of relationship problems and give it a cliched story. Trying to you slapstick comedy when really dark humor would have made this movie more enjoyable. The only thing good in the movie was the scenic location, the reason for the higher score.

An unfunny bore. The writing is uninspired and heavily cliche'd. Any message sent from "Couples Retreat" just seems wrong and unethical. There was nothing for anyone to work with and I really wish Kristen Bell would get cast in better films.

Had a potential to be a good comedy, but it is not exactly that. It has some funny moments, a quick fun, but on the other hand, is very cliche, will soon be forgotten by those who saw.

Certainly much funnier than critics have been giving it credit for, but I will admit it didn't quite live up to its casts potential. It is worth quite a few laughs however

This promised much on account of the cast, but fell way, way short of that promise. There was something really off in the interactions between the characters (had they actually met before?), the credibility of the premise evaporated quickly, and the fabricated drama was really unengaging. Some of the cameos were fun enough (Serafinowicz and Reno were enjoyable), but as a whole this just didn’t gel. Only recommended if you want to leer at the female leads; no judgement here.

This is a horrible film. The plot is stupid and the characters act unrealistically. The ending does not seem believable and you do not care for any of the characters. The actors have all done better work in other films. My advice is to skip watching this movie.

A pretty mild-mannered comedy starring some actors who can get raunchy. Still, the PG-13 rating really didn't hurt this film too bad. I liked the casting, all the couples had pretty good chemistry. I also laughed quite a few times in this and lately not a lot of comedies have been doing that for me. I did really like the cast. The women were especially great with Bell, Akerman and Davis. Vaughn and Bateman pulled out their old characters again. I wish Reno had a bigger part. Still pretty funny.

Apart from beaches, blue seas, and attractive actresses in bikinis or tight clothing, this film has very little going for it. Like so many Vince Vaughn movies, this is just your typical template rom-com stuff, sorry I meant fluff. There are a couple of ok cameos but most of the jokes miss their mark. A 5-minute skit about a man getting naked on a beach? Please, lobotomise me before I accidentally watch another of these lowest-common-denominator trashfests.

Once again a lousy, annoying comedy out of America! Made from the same recipe as so many other movies keeps you thinking that you've seen this type of film before, and you have! Many times! Come on guys! Most of the cast has some kind of talent but they piss it away when they keep on doing these sorts of movies! And yeah there is of course a morale in the end! Hate it, hate it, hate it!

The best comedies understand their subject and play the situation to humorous effect. This film, ostensibly about marriage, knows less than nothing about the way marriages work. This, coupled with mostly uninspired writing, recommends itself only because it evokes an occasional memory of how good Vince Vaughan was in Swingers. Just go watch that instead.

Surprisingly bad: They had a great cast of comedic actors, and a film with a lot of potential for humor. But It felt like a comedy with all the jokes cut out of it. The director probably thought it was a drama, but a comedy without jokes is not a drama. It's more of a joke of a film.

A big disappointment, with a negligible amount of laughs. It seems like it's trying to say something about marriage and love and family, and it does, but I can get that in a Judd Apatow movie. When did Kristen Bell become beautiful, by the way?

Not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. Just going by the ratings on Criticker, I expected to take my Netflix DVD and fling it off of my balcony after watching. I suspect this movie came as a result of drunk divorcees sitting around talking about their failed relationships. They discussed how it'd be funny to write a screenplay about being trapped on an island with their significant others, having to deal with forced therapy. Viola!... Couples Retreat.

Mostly banal and inoffensive, Couples Retreat spans at nearly two hours of Travel Channel goofiness. Bateman and Vaughn do their best with what they're given, but the material is spread far too thin for any sustained laughter. Favreau does his usual bit of playing an unlikable jerk, unaware that he's in a comedy and all of the women plus the token minority (try to find him on the poster) serve little purpose but to round out the cast. The scenery is nice, I suppose.

Couples Retreat more than likely came together as a vacation for its stars that turned into the making of a movie. Otherwise, there's no excuse to have comedic superstars like these guys wind up in a flick so terribly unfunny with zip for writing. Every scenario and line of dialogue has been selected from a vending machine, and good actors are thrown in. None of the characters reach an appropriate arc, and then the movie ends abruptly when the filmmakers realize they've already spent 90 minutes.

4 the most part avoids Vaughn's stereotypical frat-boy brand of humor. Perhaps Favreau's influence leads 2 mostly-plausible characters who have some grounding in reality & a competent-enough, albeit infrequently funny, script. Unfortunately the last 30 minutes derail in a rushed panic 2 as they force-feed neat resolutions for 2 many of the couples. It would have been braver 2 allow ALL the characters 2 be who they are, but that's probably asking 2 much of made-4-Hollywood fare like this
