While there is no doubt that Friedrich is attempting to make some important points about femininity (both socially imposed and self-inflicted), she mostly fails in a cinematic sense because most of the 17 minutes is simply performance art recorded on film (Marina Abramović seems to suffer the same fate). In other words, 'you had to be there to experience it'. However, Friedrich's skill for working effectively with the cinematic form is evident in the short amusement arcade sequence.
