I think I've figured it out. Luc Besson has three ideas. When he writes a screenplay, He takes those ideas, puts them into an empty Kleenex box and pulls out two. He then flips a Princess Diana commemorative coin onto which he's written 'future' and 'present.' Finally, he logs into Words With Friends to desperately search for an actress whose name will score him the most points on a triple word tile.

Really bad, even by generic action standards, from Cataleya's paper-thin boyfriend character to the bland and profoundly uninteresting villains to the overly frenetic action scenes and even the painfully bright and digital cinematography.

The premise stinks and so does Saldana (even though she's hot as hell), but on the positive note Olivier Megat(r)on delivers some fine imagery. And just by havíng ALMOST such a cool name as a director I give it 10 points more. But hey... If you're into cheesy Besson movies, you'll probably like this as well...

Basically a bunch of Besson's flicks (Léon, Nikita) turned into Jason Bourne vehicle for Saldana. She actually does a good job, but Megaton kind of spoils everything with his lame, fast-paced direction.

Takes every Tony Scott movie, takes out all the good parts and puts the rest in a blender and shits it out and this is what you get. Just feels like the director had no clue what he was doing and tried to overcompensate by doing what he's seen on TV shows. The script was so cliched and terrible and the acting is of course bad because the script doesn't make sense. Zoe Saldana is nice eye candy but she can't save a turd from sinking.

A cinematic cyborg--combining parts of *La Femme Nikita* and *Leon: the Professional*--which is not necessarily a bad thing, if the film had a stronger story. Saldana saves this movie from being mediocre, if not terrible--not so much for action prowess, but for her dramatic skills.

Give me Saldana as the next James Bond and I won’t complain... as expected from the legendary Megaton, this is a loud, ugly, often incoherent actioner largely relying on Saldana to both deliver as action hero and hold the enterprise together, which she manages with great style and class; covers similar ground to the concurrent SALT and HANNA, but it is Saldana’s work that elevates the film above those; she even manages to make the finale modestly moving.

I tend to enjoy Luc Besson's output, it's rarely great, but it's almost always reliably fun garbage. He only wrote and produced this one, turning the direction duties over to the magnificently named Olivier Megaton. It's got all his signature touches ... a kick-ass woman kicking ass, decent action sequences, and a cast who all look French no matter where the film is set. I enjoyed this one while marveling at how dumb it was the entire time. Saldana should headline more action flicks.

Saldana makes a good anti-heroine, but a lot of the dialogue is painful. Character motivation consistently comes second to action sequences, and the plot is left weaker for it, especially when it relies on conveniences and contrivances. Watchable but meh!

I was expecting a lot more. Having Luc Besson as a writer, my expectations were high considering that I find Leon to be the premiere assassin film of all time. However, this one falls into the same bargain bin as the rest of director Olivier Megaton's oeuvre and Luc Besson's late career output of euro-action garbage.

Plopping neatly out of the Luc Besson lone female action hero mold, this is however not one of the Frenchman's cleverer films. In fact the plot is a wholly mindless revenge affair, devoid of wit or meaning. Zoe Saldana can do nothing with her role because there is not one line of personality written into the script. She is out-acted by a 9-year-old. There is some visual flair to the action scenes, but this alone does not a good film make, and the surrounding scenes are like watching paint dry.

Loved this movie, the fact that it's an action-thriller starring a woman--the great actress Zoe Saldana. The girl who plays her younger self blew me away with her deadly seriousness; it was quite believable how the young girl could grow up to be a gun for hire. I could feel her pain, especially when the mobs get revenge for her killings. The love story sub-plot with Michael Vartan's character was underdeveloped and unnecessary, but it tied things together nicely at the end.

Featuring Besson's trademark love for kids/assassins, the plot is classic nonsensical vendetta, propelled by a sexy Saldana showcasing the injustice of being hidden behind blue CGI. While the direction shows no sign of economy, the editing is outright poor even by modern action standards. Nevertheless, it is mildly entertaining and basically just exploitation for the MTV-generation.

Colombiana might have been salvageable if it took itself a little less seriously. You know, a laugh here or a wink there would have gone a long way with me. But instead, we get an unlikable protagonist that we can't even understand, a plot that is filled with holes, and a bunch of action scenes that aren't constructed with very much skill. Saldana could be an action star, and that's the one revelation that comes out of this film. The rest just doesn't make enough sense.

Zoe Saldana burns up the screen in this story of revenge.
I thought this movie contained everything a fun action movie should have. Explosions, bad guys getting their just desserts and a dark anti-hero ready to dole out some punishment.
I was happy to see that Michael Vartan from Alias was in this also.
This wasn't a perfect movie by far and maybe I'm giving it too high of a score but sometimes you just can't help liking a movie even if it is a little thin on a plot. It's just a lot of fun.

Beautiful cinematography and great action. Despite the very fast pace, the film isn't long enough to tell the full story. Still, the stealth assassinations is some of the best to be put on screen in years. The editing is almost too quick to really savour those long moments of a predator stalking her prey. And there are some unnecessary MTV-like shots of Saldana changing her clothes. But overall this is a solid, polished action film. Looking forward to more ass-kickery from Saldana.

A boring affair starring Zoe Saldana, who has to suffer through the film's dull aches - the revenge plot is conventional, the action seems rehashed (other than the chase scene at the beginning), and the villains are undeveloped. There are also some rather large plot holes, and I'm thinking especially of the scene where her uncle murders a random person in the middle of a Chicago suburb in front of a hundred onlookers. Ugh.

There's little to recommend since 'Colombiana' is as generic as action movies get. While Zoe Saldana makes for a gorgeous assassin and the hook is there, absolutely nothing reels this movie in. It's not awful, nor remotely good, but most importantly, it's not the least bit memorable. The film also ends with one of the most poorly choreographed and edited hand-to-hand combat sequences of any major studio production in recent memory.
